Wotcha fellow clun members - just a reminder TOMORROW is the day to report in on your book you've read. Then you all send the book on to your sendee by the end of the month.

As 25 December appears to be a fairly busy day for some reason for most of the western hemisphere I have made an executive decision as fat controller of the clun that we will have until 25 January to read the book sent on to us this time round. Hopefully will give even the most dedicated xmas party fiend time to read the book by the our merry clun carousel spins round again.

swampster · 24/11/2011 21:41

Hahahahaahahah [hysterical laughter] I still have several hundred pages to plough through.

dinkystinky · 25/11/2011 09:51

Blimey Swampster - that sounds like quite some tome you're reading??? You have till end of November to finish it and send on - but you can always arrange a longer sending period with your sendee if you like and they are willing as we're not sending on after that again till 25 January. Have you enjoyed the first 5million pages?

I had Swampy's book this time round - have read it before but stands up to a re-read. I still feel its the weakest one of the series, lots of expositionary work I think which comes into its own later, and some bits make rather uncomfortable reading (especially for the vivid of imagination) but its an interesting idea for a book and on the whole well executed.

swampster · 25/11/2011 10:12

Dinky, I cried when I finished the last one knowing that there would be no more! But lots of people think it is absolutely the worst book ever.

I move to ban musttidyup from the clun for sending a 700-page tome. Shock

dinkystinky · 25/11/2011 10:18

I agree the last one was definitely the best of the set

700 pages! What is it Wolf Hall or The Long Road Home???? Shock

musttidyupmusttidyup · 25/11/2011 10:37

700 fabulous pages though!

swampster · 25/11/2011 11:05

It's no War and Peace. Or Anna Karenina!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 25/11/2011 12:42

Thank God.

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 25/11/2011 13:17

Um.........think I might send this one on without finishing it. Blush I'm really struggling with this one, I'm afraid. I'm not sure why but I just can't get in to it. I've read the first few chapters, then read them again when i realised i didnt have a clue what i'd just read, but i think i'm just going to give up on it. especially since its sending on day today! I'll pop it in the post tomorrow swamps, and then start fresh with the next one.

acsec · 26/11/2011 17:48

Musttidyup - I really enjoyed your book and have asked for the others for Xmas!

Afternoons - I found Calico's book a bit tough going to start with, quite liked the middle but not the end.

I've got ClingingtoSaity's book this time and am enjoying it as can dip in and out when I feel like it. I'll try and get it sent on Monday.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 26/11/2011 18:34

I'm glad you're addicted acsec. I hear there is a movie in the pipeline Grin.
This month I read kiwijesters book and really really enjoyed it. It is one that I will always remember. Smile

acsec · 26/11/2011 18:43

Ah, but I wonder if they'd make the movie too schmaltzy, that would be no good.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 26/11/2011 18:46

It'll probably never happen which is probably for the best - surely it would be just too expensive to do it justice?

acsec · 26/11/2011 18:51

Yes, or they'd Hollywoodise it and make it completely different!

Calico1 · 26/11/2011 19:10

Afternoons Angry - though must admit I read the book pre-children when I had much more time to concentrate Grin

Calico1 · 26/11/2011 19:19

I've just read Rufus's book (I think!). Good book but thought the central character was a bit wet - kept wanting her to stand up for herself a bit more. I'll send it on on Monday.

kiwijesta · 27/11/2011 20:19

Hi all,
I've just sent a complicated message to rufus and clingingtosanity about my holiday plans, and now I've found that the clun is thankfully being extended over Christmas. Basically I'm going home to (unsurprisingly) NZ for all of Dec and Jan but if I post to Clinging and so does Rufus we'll be sorted! I'll come back in at the end of Jan raring to go!

My book is quite Sad this month and I've not finished it so I'm going to post it on and get a copy next week at home and persevere.

Haribojoe · 27/11/2011 20:49

Struggling to get finished this month, am going to make a concerted efort over next few days and promise I won't be late posting my book this year.

Book clun gives me another reason to look forward to maternity leave, work really does get in the way of all the important things in life doesn't it!

rufussewell · 27/11/2011 23:00

calico would you mind writing my MN name in the front of that book you have just read, as I put my RL name in instead! ta

Calico1 · 28/11/2011 20:11

Oh sorry Rufus - posted it this morning to musttidyup before I saw your message.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 28/11/2011 21:59

I'll do it rufus

piebald · 29/11/2011 11:18

Sorry sorry-just realised i havent had my book yet let alone read it. Are you out there ESP.

swampster · 29/11/2011 11:55

Poor ESP gets her books from me so she gets them rather late. Blush

I haven't poted yet either. Blush Blush Blush

I haven't finished reading it yet and I don't think I ever will! Sad

dinkystinky · 29/11/2011 17:05

Piebald - give ESP a PM - I've seen her around on other threads a few weeks ago so hopefully she's out there.

Tilly - keep forgetting to post you Swampy's book. Will definitely post it tomorrow - may staple it to my forehead to remind me to do it!

acsec · 29/11/2011 22:16

I am going up to the post ofiice tomorrow, I promise!!
