...I am a book LOVER. I would rather read a book than talk to my husband. I would rather lurk round Oxfam books than do pretty much anything. Sometimes I look at my book collection and think how clever I am. Because finances have been REALLY tight recently I have joined a library which has led me to write down everything I read so that I can still see how clever I am buy them if/ when things improve.

So we're about to move overseas and I can't ship all of my books and the town we're moving to does not have a bookshop. If I buy a kindle will that slake my thirst for the joy of holding a book in my hand. Or is it an expensive way of remaining dissatisfied with the lack of books in my life?

I love my kindle. For books that I want to read once, they are not cluttering up the house. For ones which I really love, I like to buy a hard copy too. Many of the books that have been long time favourites which I've had in hard copy, I've also bought an ebook copy too. It makes things much easier when its a really big book.

I cant begin to imagine NOT holding and occasionally sniffing a real live book in my hands.
A technophobe, i struggle with my simple moble phone so dont know if i would get on with a bookkiddle jobby.

I have a kindle and still buy 'real' books!
kindle is good for book club reads as I can annotate it for easy reference in discussion, plus not all the books I read for book group are ones I would necessarily want to own.
i love the kindle, but it has not replaced paper books for me

I'm a voracious reader - and I have a Kindle and a serious Library habit (they know me by name and can call my account up before I've given them the card to take a book out ).

To be honest, I completely forget when I'm reading the Kindle that it isn't a book. Many's the time that I've looked around trying to find the bookmark to put in my Kindle, much to everyone's amusement.

My Dad bought me something like 20 books for my birthday (all second hand - charity shop), so I still get my paper fix!! To be honest, it's all about the story for me - not what I'm reading it off!! Although I have just had £70 of Amazon vouchers for my birthday, that I spent ALL OF on kindle books...

However, if you like to stand back and look at your bookshelves, a kindle might be a shock to the system. Although you can keep an awful lot on there, it's not like looking at bookshelves.

Have fun - and believe me when I say that you will probably spend more on the kindle than you were spending on physical books!! It's easily done and instantaneous - a very dangerous combo!!

yes, I must admit I am a little bit scared of that. I do love classics though and it looks like you can get a lot for free (clutches at straws?)

I've recently managed to (nearly) wean myself off books as decor and only have two bookcases now.

I got rid of all but my most beloved books when we moved and now go to the library, recycle at charity shops and use a kindle.

The important bit of a book is in your head not on the shelf.

The trouble with library books is that they may have been borrowed to be read in the toilet.

In which case, what have previous borrowers touched just before or after they touched the book? Because now, so have I.

Yuck. I don't borrow books off friends for the same reason.

I would heartily recommend the kindle, but check that you can download books in that country onto a kindle bought in this country if you get what I mean. Seen a few bits on forums where people have had issues with that.
