In to the darkest corner - read a recommendation on here and loved it - can't remember the author.

I believe Into the darkess corner is by Elizabeth Haynes.

Have a look at The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd if you liked The Help.

I can't recommend 'the memory of love' by Aminatta Forna enough. I enjoyed all three of the books you mentioned and The Help was probably the best book I'd read all year until I read the above.

Rona Jaffe - the best of everything or peyton Place by Grace Metalious (both reissued books from the 50's but fantastic, fast paced involving reads)

Slammerkin (by the author of Room) is a great book about a girl growing up in England just before the Napoleonic wars who descends into prostitution.Much better than Room IMHO

I read 22 Britannia Road last week (about a polish family reunited in Ipswich after WW2 - it's a new book) which I thought was good.
