is your dh or dp too?
Dh and I both love reading.
D sis and her dh both rarely read.
Most people I have ever asked or know about, both partners are the same, either readers or not.

I read avidly, I have only known DH to read a few books in the 13 years we have been together. Both DC love books, but are only small.

Ragwort · 23/05/2011 14:46

We both enjoy reading - me probably a bit more.

DontHassleTheBOF · 23/05/2011 14:46

I read voraciously- DP absolutely never. I don't think he has ever read a novel.

UntamedShrew · 23/05/2011 14:47

I read one or 2 novels a week. DH has read one novel in the last year! He loves to read, but more newspapers, periodicals and factual (business) books. Boring Wink

Jas · 23/05/2011 14:48

I read alot. DP has never in the years I have known him, read any fiction at all. He will read, and re-read national geographic magazines and similar though.

tillyfernackerpants · 23/05/2011 15:25

I read avidly, generally 2/3 books a week. Dh only reads in the toilet maybe a book every 2/3 months!

inthesticks · 23/05/2011 15:30

I read fiction, about 2 novels a week, more on holidays.

DH reads newspapers and the occasional heavy duty work of history.

DS1 is 15, and apart from reading Harry Potter when he was little never reads fiction. He likes books of lists and facts or stuff about Physics.

DS2 is 13 has the same reading gene as me and I cannot keep up withsupplying him with books. I've just got back from the library with 12 books for him, many of which he had ordered.

bonkers20 · 23/05/2011 15:31

We are both readers. DS(12) is also a reader and DS1(2) is going the same way. Huzzah!

SpringHeeledJack · 23/05/2011 15:32

Dp reads one book every six months

he reads two pages a night then drops off

the dcs are away this weekend and he's been reading Brighton Rock all the time- that's when he's not walking round looking dazed

it's q funny. Can't wait for retirement

HugoFirst · 23/05/2011 15:33

me three a wekk

h one a month

stabiliser15 · 23/05/2011 15:36

I am a very big reader - am capable of getting through a novel in an afternoon and usually have 2 or 3 books on the go at a time. My holiday suitcase is always full of books. DH has read 2 books for himself in the 3.5 years we have been together. He is, however, very good at reading lots of stories to my DSD and our DD.

sonearsofar · 23/05/2011 16:08

I love reading and so does my daughter. My husband and 2 sons hardly ever read. Mind you, I my reading has gone right down since I got a laptop and I spend my reading time surfing the net

IreadthereforeIam · 23/05/2011 18:28

I read a lot - 2 - 3 books a week when I'm on a roll (hence the name, I suppose!Wink). Dh, on the other hand is more of a sporadic reader. He went through a phase of reading every night for about 6 months, but now he doesn't read at all (he says he can't read when he's stressed at work - I've always found my reading increases when I'm stressed, it's the best form of escapism that I know!!). Ds's love being read to, and have a good try at reading themselves (aged 4 and 7) - I'm hoping they'll take after me. Although that could get expensive Grin.

So I don't know what that does to the theory Confused

natto · 23/05/2011 20:37

I like to read, DP doesn't. He reads the occasional technical book for work, or maybe one of those humorous gift books, but would never read a novel.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 23/05/2011 20:38

I read 2-3 novels most weeks, if I can possibly find the time to do so. Dp loves reading but is much, much slower than I am. On a two week holiday and would take a dozen books and be chomping at the bit for more, whereas he might manage two novels.

posey · 23/05/2011 20:58

Right, that's that theory thrown out then BlushGrin

I read loads, DH only reads the newspaper. Don't think I have ever seen him read a book, apart from a cookbook, in 23 years, although he does own some from when he was young.

sungirltan · 23/05/2011 21:07

i read a lot though i have slowed since having dd. i probably read a book a week when things arn't too hectic. i cant fall asleep without a few pages and if i stay with friend etc i have to borrow a book just for that!

dh is a keen reader but lacked direction. i have guided towards lots of literature i though he'd like (homer = loved, orwell = same, salinger = hated!). we have an occasional themed reading period where we pick similar tomes with a view to discussion - orwell/wells/huxley was excellent for that but i know he's not done anything like that with exes :) mind you his favourite books are the flashman novels (the shame!)

gabid · 23/05/2011 21:10

I like novels, and whatever I take a fancy to, so always have a book on my bedside table. DP reads gardening books and occasionally history books about battles etc.

Ilythia · 23/05/2011 21:14

I read all the time. I have 3 books on teh go all the time at a minimum.

DH has read less than 10 books since I have known him. And that has been 16 years.

musicmaiden · 24/05/2011 14:10

Another here who reads loads ? although inevitably less since I had 20mo DS. DH only reads news, magazines and websites ? he might get through one book on holiday.
