Its wifi only. Its "lost" the wifi connection so I go to connect it again. It can "see" the wifi no problem but won't connect when I put the password in. Keeps saying that it cannot connect, would I like to enter the password again or set up the network? 3 bloody hours now.

Have you turned your router off and on again?

BendyBob · 17/05/2011 18:28

Oh dear...Sadnow see, you wouldn't get all this hassel from a nice old fashioned paperback.

mummylouise · 17/05/2011 18:28

reset the kindle - switch the on/off switch and hold for 30 sec. should reset it and be ok.

ant3nna · 17/05/2011 18:32

It might be a problem with your router. I had a problem with mine where it would chuck everything off it (laptop, phone etc) after half hour or so and you would have to reset the thing to connect again. I had to change the type of encryption on it in the end.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/05/2011 18:52

I've reset the kindle and the router. Still not working. Its not the router as the laptop is connected no problem.

How old is the kindle? It sounds fucked.

BelleEnd · 17/05/2011 18:54

If you do throw it away, can you throw it in this direction please? :o

So do you need wifi with all Kindles then?

ChippyMinton · 17/05/2011 18:54

No idea, but have you tried the amazon kindle forum?

ggirl · 17/05/2011 18:55

oh I was just getting excited about getting a kindle

VivaLeBeaver · 17/05/2011 18:56

I bought it in Oct. I do love it when it works but God I wish I'd got the 3g.

All the letters are half rubbed off on the keypad buttons, do you think I could demand a replacement on those grounds and then ask by teh way can I pay £50 extra and get a 3g one.

Off to try the Amazon Kindle forum now, thanks.

I have this with my Kindle. It receives my purchases with no problems, but won't connect to the internet.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/05/2011 19:01

Mine won't even recieve my purchases, can't read today's paper. FFS.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/05/2011 19:07

Sorted, had to turn the router off for 10 secs and turn it on again. Then leave the kindle alone to find the wifi by itself rather than keeping constantly trying to put the password in. Worked straight away, didn't need to put the password in. Right off to read the paper now. Smile

That's what I told you to do. Ages ago Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 17/05/2011 19:21

Bitoffun - I did turn my router off like you told me to. But then turned it back on and straight away started trying to put the password into my kindle rather than leaving it alone. It seemed to be the leaving alone that made the difference. But thanks. Smile

Well, we'll all know next time. Crisis averted Grin

IlsaLund · 17/05/2011 19:27

Mine did this. I turned it off completley (not hibernating with the picture) then charged it fully and it's been fine since.

ggirl · 17/05/2011 19:30

can you explain the diff with 3g version
am techphobe btw

NorkilyChallenged · 17/05/2011 19:30

Yes I had this exact problem too and solution definitely seems to be a full recharge then hard reboot (switch off holding off switch for at least 15 seconds) followed by leaving it to find wifi by itself. I had given up all hope after 2 months so have been delighted to fix the problem on mine

VivaLeBeaver · 17/05/2011 20:43

ggirl - the 3g version doesn't need a wifi connection to download books/newspapers. If out of a wifi area it will use the 3g phone signal to do the same.

ggirl · 17/05/2011 20:46

ah thanks

icer · 17/05/2011 20:58

Why is it wifi only? only had mine since xmas and normally use the cable to put stuff on it.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/05/2011 21:11

Sorry yes when I sai wifi only it still does the cable as well. Or its meant to, I have used the cable in the past.

Tried that this afternoon though and it wouldn't work. Got the screen on the kindle that says something like "if you want to read or purchase while connected keep the kindle plugged in but "disconnect" it at the computer. So I selected "disconnect kindle" on my bottom toolbar on the laptop but the kindle screen didn't change. Tried pressing buttons on the kindle but nothing worked. Not sure if I was doing it right though as ages since I last used the cable.

From what I've read this happens a lot when you've got a low wifi signal. When I first had mine I was forever resetting it until it clicked that it always seemed to happen when I'd been using wifi in our bedroom which has quite a poor signal. Now I turn my wifi off when I'm just reading (saves loads on battery too) & download when I'm downstairs. Since then I don't think I've had to do a reset.
