Brixton Beach: got this for my birthday and have been avoiding it for some reason. Just started it and it is wonderful

Lyrical and touching and ineffably sad. Such a sense of paradise lost. Beautiful.

Anyone else?

Not yet - but it's on the list of books to read. Sounds like a good read.

I absolutely loved it. I love books that make me find out some history. Beautiful book.

Just a wonderful book although I could only read a small bit at a time because I found it so sad. I read Mosquito first and was hooked - not at all what I expected it to be ...

Oh my God I read this and at first loved it but by the end HATED it. Nothing and I mean nothing good happens to any of the characters. Now I am not someone who has to have a 'and they lived happily ever after' ending...but this was sooooooooo depressing.

It is really well written, I love the descriptions of the beach, and I found it fascinating to read about Sri Lanka (somewhere I dream of visiting). So I guess despite my strong feelings about it I still would highly recommend it but I guess be prepared to be a little sad.

I suppose it is only a representation of events in the world that we are generally naive about, so perhaps this is why I found it so depressing, the knowledge that the events described have really happened to people.

Hmmmm, have now convinced myself that I actually like the book. I take back my 'HATED it'. :)
