Little Stranger by Sarah Waters isn't exactly your run of the mill ghost story but is brilliant. A quirky choice!

sonearsofar · 11/05/2011 21:08

yes - the ghost stories of MR James, the best ghost story writer ever (especially 'Whistle and I'll Come to You' and 'Rats'

Thanks. I'll check those out on Amazon.

Dark Matter by Michelle Paver

FourFingeredKitkat · 11/05/2011 21:43

I enjoyed "The Winter Ghosts" by Kate Mosse

The Little Stranger was dull and predictable.

Something a little quirky, not strictly a ghost story is The House on the Strand, Daphne du Maurier.

Francagoestohollywood · 11/05/2011 21:55

Henry James' The turn of the screw is a classic, and the best imo

Francagoestohollywood · 11/05/2011 21:55

Ah, and Bram Stoker The judge house

Shaxx · 11/05/2011 22:06

I went for an Algernon Blackwood. It had some brill reviews.

I love ghost stories too so bought MR James and Winter Ghosts for myself. Ill wait for Dark Matter to come out in paperback Smile

Will keep the others in mind too. Thanks all Smile

The Willows

Vernon lee wrote some good stories too, I think she's underrated
