I've loved some of his, but he also wrote one of the worst books I've ever read (I can't remember the name of it, but it was the one set in Paris...) I went off him after that.

BitOfFun · 05/05/2011 21:01

I couldn't get along with the Paris one either, but the others are superb. I loved that darkly comic one set in outback Australia.

AgentProvocateur · 05/05/2011 22:34

I loved the Australian one too - I could almost smell that truck load of rotting kangaroo meat!

piebald · 06/05/2011 09:20

Like AP have liked and not liked some. Dont think i have read Aussie one yet anyone remember what its called?

stabiliser15 · 06/05/2011 12:50

Woman in the Fifth was the Paris one I think - agree with the general opinion on that, not his best.

LOVED A Special Relationship although probably shouldnt have re-read while heavily pregnant! State of the Union, Leaving the World and The Pursuit of Happiness have read and loved.

Just had delivered: Temptation, The Moment and The Big Picture delivered.

The Dead Heart is the one set in Australia. It's quite different to some of his others.

Enjoy your bookfest, Stabiliser!

sprout44 · 06/05/2011 13:29

I love him also, i got a sample of The moment on the kindle and it looks good, will have to get it. My all time is The pursuit of Happiness. I kinda of liked the women in the fifth untill i read where she was actually dead, could not take it in.

KurriKurri · 06/05/2011 21:34

I hadn't heard of him, but have looked him up on Amazon and sounds very much like my kind of thing. - Which one would be best to start with?

BitOfFun · 06/05/2011 21:45

Try State Of The Union- I think that's the one about the woman who gets PND, then it turns into a bit of a thriller.

KurriKurri · 06/05/2011 21:47

thanks BOF - will look for it in the library tomorrow Smile

moaningminniewhingesagain · 06/05/2011 21:50

The pursuit of happiness is a fab saga love story, just a great long old yarn. I loved it.

Just got 'The Moment' but not started it yet. Was v disappointed the the paris one too, but loved State of the Union. The early ones are quite a different style really, more like lads version of chick lit IMHO.

stabiliser15 · 07/05/2011 11:41

The State of the Union is the one about the woman whose past comes back to bite her in the backside. A Special Relationship is the one about PND. Both excellent!

Ah, I always get those two mixed up Grin

KurriKurri · 07/05/2011 17:49

The library only had 2 of his in, so I got The Dead Heart and Temptation - both look good.

Itsjustafleshwound · 07/05/2011 18:01

I really enjoyed 'The Big Picture' and the one on PND -

sprout44 · 12/05/2011 18:23

I love Douglas K also espically The pursuit of happiness. Has anybody read The moment yet, i got a sample on the kindle and it seems really good. I love the way he writes, you get hooked very fast.

fustyarse · 12/05/2011 22:22

POH is one of my all-time favourite books. SR also very good. His older ones are miles better than newer.

have just had The Moment delivered and it's off to a good start! Was disappointed with the last couple so fingers crossed this is a new good 'un because I do like his style of writing...

Mogmog · 14/05/2011 16:44

POH was excellent and enjoyed some of the others to different degrees. Off to try The Moment right now.

VeryStressedMum · 15/05/2011 13:14

I like Douglas Kennedy, loved Special Relationship and loved a few others but can't remember what they are called.

KatharineClifton · 17/05/2011 18:04

Me too! Except for the Paris one. I'm glad others have said the same thing as it's sitting in my bathroom and I can now get rid of it.
