Cloud Altas-Anyone else missing the last two pages of the first section?

Bought this at Waterstone's and I'm a little infuriated that the last two pages of the 1st section are missing. Is this deliberate? There are no obvious rips. What happened to Mr. Ewing?

I wonder if there were printing problems with this book? I bought it several years ago and one of the chapters was repeated later in the book. Because it's a bit of a quirky story I wasn't sure if that was deliberate or a printing error! I have been told by others who read it that it was just my copy! I can't remember the details of the first chapter but will have a look in my copy later ( I was given another copy as a gift & haven't got around to re-reading it yet...)

well, the story breaks off at various points, to be resumed later on. perservere, it's really worth it

Don't have my copy but as far as I recall it is intentional.

Doh! Mystery solved. Now I feel like a bit of an idiot.
The first section is a journal and it stops abruptly and is then resumed when the other half is found.

Finished the book but hmmmm....
I'm not sure that the pieces hung together enough. Nice themes. God, cultural interference, Darwin, nuclear disaster, racism.
Not a waste of time but not a book that will stay with me.
