How does kindle work? Can you pass the books on?

Will sound like the novice I am. Bil has just bought kindle as he thinks it will be ideal for taking books on hold. Which I guess for him it will be. But one of the good things when we all go away is passing books round. I get that with one kindle that's not going to work, but with more than one, can you transfer the files between machines? Otherwise how do I share my books with others?

Thanks! Maybe we'll get one too. It was not being able to share books that was really putting me off. Certainly can't afford to buy all books at new full price and love passing books onto friend's when done too.

Hi there. I just got a kindle too and was wondering the same thing, so thanks for posting!

I was wondering too, do you have to pay to transfer the books between kindles?

Euphemia - can you explain (using one or two syllable words, as if talking to a complete numpty!) how you register other Kindles to your Amazon account?! I would love to share books with my sister, but am clueless how to!

Yay! That's great news. Smile

Hiya take a look at the kindle reading club thread some of us mumsnetters have been emailing each other loads of books for free.

Popolly:

when you first got your kindle, you registered it to an amazon account.

on the home screen, if you press menu (I htink - doing this form memory!), you get a list come up. scroll to register/deregister your kindle. follow instructions to deregister (you don't lose all your content)

then, re-register to your sister's account (or vice versa, of course Smile), and sync.

voila. all books shared.

if you and your sister want to share regularly, and not go thorugh this faff, you can set up an extra amazon account (dh and I have done this) that you both register your kindles to, and then buy books on - you can then send the books ot both kindles.

hth.

oh, you can deregister/reregister your kindle to accounts any number of times.
