Is Don Quixote readable?

We have a couple of bits of art based on Don Quixote and I feel I ought to read it, but I don't think I have ever heard of anyone reading it. Is it readable or will I find it very tough going?

I tried reading it in Spanish cos I've always found reading novels a good way to improve a language, but that was a debacle- it's written in archaic Spanish, I needed a dictionary for every 2nd word, and I still didn't get it. so I bought it in English (was about 20 years ago), have tried to start it several times and couldn't get into it, perhaps you have to get past the first 50 pages and it's OK? Not, for me, a page turner, anyway.
