Kindle will not connect at home - we have open wifi so no passwords involved or anything......I know I will have to take it to a wifi hotspot to see if it connects there but just wondered if there is anything daft I am not doing that is stopping me connecting automatically at home

The only "daft" thing you could be doing at home to stop your kindle connecting automatically, would be to have the wifi (very sensibly, it really drains the battery) turned off. I don't have mine in the room with me, but I think it's on the "menu" button.

You need to ring them I rang them on Saturday as I was having similar problems. They got me to do some checks on it and decided it had gremlins and are sending me a new one.

Try sliding the on/off switch to the right(?) and holding for about 20 seconds. This does a restart I think. Was having the same problem and was instructed to do this by the nice man at Amazon.

just ring the helpline they are great
if your Kindle has 3G it works if you tell it to 'forget' wifi and use the 3G
