So how was world book night?

Last night our town did a world book night evening - They opened up a local art gallery and 8 different givers were there with their world book night books. People attending the book night were asked to also bring along a second hand book and we would be able to swap for another.

When we arrived we had to hand in our preloved book and then we got to browse the WBN offerings and speak to the givers who told us about the books. Dotted around the gallery were preloved books which you were able to help yourself to if they captured your fancy and help yourself to refreshments.

The givers then also gave readings of the books throughout the evening and some local poets/authors also performed some of their work.

Then as you left you were able to claim some of the WBN books being given away. I ended up leaving with 3 new books and 4 preloved ones too.

Was a good night all round.

So how was your WBN? Would you do it again? :)

A disaster, darling! A local chairman was supposed to organise volunteers who visit old people through a charity, to come round last night 6-8pm. One elderly man turned up and we had to ply the poor soul with spanish sausage, quiche, tortillas and sherry. Two more turned up but didn't want food.

And that was it!

But that said, I can give the rest of the books to the charity at a later date. I got to talk to the poor old gent about books and my passion for them. It was actually fun - we had a giggle at the low turnout and my daughter teased me and said my parties are 'hardcore.'

a non-event, I did not know any book givers and there was no publicity or initiatives locally - if there were, they were not well advertised. shame, actually

Ours wasn't really advertised but I got an email from a local book club telling me about it - and obviously I had heard of it on here etc.
