Hi all

I wondering if any of you P&P fans recognise this book. I read it ages ago, and want to see if I can get hold of a copy...

Follows on the P&P when Lizzy & Mr Darcy are married. Mr Darcy starts acting strange (has secret) which Lizzy can't leave alone.... she thinks he has another women, turns out that his best friend (married to her sister Jane) has a secret child from a women he met in France during the war?

Ring any bells? I realise there are hundreds of sequels, and can't find any on Amazon that sound like this....

Any help would be gratefully received.

Pemberley- Emma Tennant, I think

LIZS · 22/02/2011 21:33

Yes I have it upstairs - is it Pemberley by Emma Tennant , although iirc there was another one too

BelligerentGhoul · 22/02/2011 21:34

Pemberley is the best known so-called sequel. It is appalling but I have hidden the exact details way back in my mind in a bid to forget that it was ever written tbh.

I loved 'Mr Darcy's Diary'. I'm sorry if that offends, but i really enjoyed it! Blush

Yes, I couldn't remember the name but it's by Emma Tennant and it's pretty tiresome (perhaps I'm biased because I happened to speak with the lady on the phone a few weeks before reading it and I thought she was astonishingly patronising!).

LOOK AWAY NOW BELLIGERENT GHOUL Shock

I think she wrote a sequel to the sequel, all to do with Darcy & Elizabeth's children but I never got round to reading it on the "strength" of the first... I think the gist of the story was that the boy was a bit of a layabout and it was the girl who was interested in running the estate etc etc etc...

Maud2011 · 23/02/2011 21:04

Saggyoldclothcatpuss, I haven't come across Mr Darcy's Diary, can you tell me more?

LIZS · 23/02/2011 21:09

ah it was An Unequal Marriage next ! Also written Thornfield Hall , presumably a Jane Eyre sequel/prequel and Emma in Love etc

BelligerentGhoul · 23/02/2011 21:11

Ugh - do we have a vomit emoticon on here? :)

owenmeany · 23/02/2011 21:14

This is just wrong. Same with Rebecca sequels, or most others you care to mention! Smile

Maud2011 · 23/02/2011 21:23

Must admit loving Jean Rhys's Wide Sargasso Sea - not exactly a sequel to Jane Eyre though it certainly couldn't have been written without Jane Eyre...

Just popped on to Amazon and somewhat satisfied to see that Emma Tennant's sequels to Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre all have 1 and 2 star reviews, what a meany I am Smile.

BelligerentGhoul · 23/02/2011 21:25

I had a ritual burning of Pemberley - normally I see books as sacred but that was so bad that I couldn't allow it to find its way back out into an unsuspecting and innocent world.

Maud2011 · 23/02/2011 21:32

That was brave Belligerent Ghoul, the fumes might have overcome you Shock

JeffVadar · 02/03/2011 08:10

There was a much older sequel written in the 1950s called 'Pemberley Shades'. I suspect that it might be even worse than the recent one Smile. The author glories in the name of Dorothy Bonavia-Hunt.

I also loved Wide Sargasso Sea Maud.
