I used to like to read the novels by elizabeth george, but now I have started to read 'careless in red' and it is tedious and booooooring. is it just me?

similar with patricia cornwell...she has changed her writing style of her scarpetta novels and now I really dislike them.

what are yours?

Joanna Trollope and Maeve Binchy - love their older novels, new ones just feel like they're really out of touch with the world and seem like they were written merely to fulfill contractual obligations! They used to be my favourite comfort reads.

mousy have you tried Kathy Reichs?A bit Cornwellish but IMHO better.Thought PC'S early books better than more recent.

Also for light hearted easy to read non too taxing on the brain crime fiction could I reccomend Janet Evanovich (Stephanie Plum books). After dp died I needed something to while away the evenings when dcs in bed but found I couldn't concentrate on anything too heavy. These were perfect, and made me laugh.

By standby crime novels I always go back to are the Rebus ones though.

Love Kathy Reichs and Stephanie Plum. Mavis, you have excellent taste!

yep, have read all of the kathy reichs ones. they are nice. I couldn*t really warm to janet evanovich tbh, but love ruth rendell and the rebus ones are fab, too. or a jack reacher one. oh, and karin slaughter (what a fitting name) and tess gerritsen are brilliant too.
sorry to hear about your dp :(

Recently discovered Fred Vargas. Her books are also really good if you like the crime genre, weird but good

thanks, I will try fred vargas. I decided I will read another 20 pages of elizabeth george, if it still is boring I will put it in the pile for the charity shop.
