Robert Tressell, the author of The Ragged Trousered Philthopist died one hundred years ago today and his story is still as relevant today.

If you like it then read George Gissing's Nether World or Workers in the Dawn - written earlier but just as poignant and insightful.

I read Nether World and Ragged trousered philanthropist at university - loved them both and both still remain on my bookcase despite a massive cull when dh and I moved in togehter
