Was this for school? I remember reading this in 3rd year and it seemed to capture the attention of the boys most of all.

i didn't manage grapes of wrath till i was 16 but i did enjoy cannary row and monterrey whatsit ones earlier.

Fab book, doing it with yr 10 and 11 now at school.

It's good because it's short so they can get through it, but it's got lots of good meaty issues (relationship between L and G, Curley's wife and her role, racism, Depression, etc etc)
