World Book Night 2011

World Book Night will take place in March 2011 a couple of days after World Book Day. They have gone a step further this year and as well as the £1 tokens given to school children there will be a million books given away. Twenty five titles have been selected and you can apply to be a 'giver'. If successful you'll be given 48 books of the title you select to give to anyone at all.
As my favourite book is one of the 25 I think I shall have to apply!

I've just signed up for this.

Anyone else?

infin · 07/12/2010 19:14

Apart from me! Which book did you choose Roisin?
I picked 'A Fine Balance'. However, the people I give it to if I am successful may wonder if I was trying to depress them! It is brilliant (IMO) but requires a certain mindset to take anything positive from it!

I chose Life of Pi.

So much more fun than the one I picked! Life of Pi is to me what Lucy in the sky with diamonds is to pop music ( simplistic soul!)

I loathe & detest "A Fine Balance". Please tell me I'm not one of your friends, infin! There's a few I like there, but "Love in the Time of Cholera" would be my favourite. As I remember, though, it took me ages to get into it, then I couldn't put it down. I could lose a few friends over it!

Oh, this looks great!

Cheapskatemum, A Fine Balance is in my to-read pile, and I'm so looking forward to starting it. What do you hate about it?

Any chance or restarting this thread? Did you get your books? I've got "All Quiet on the Western Front". Are we allowed to do swaps, as I'll probably have a few spare after supplying all the reading groups I know about.
