bil is going to be in argnetina, chile and brazil over christmas and new year. i think it would be nice to give him some travel reading, i was thinking meaningful fiction or stunning biog eg death in the andes or the motorcycle diaries.
any other ideas?

Isobel Allende's book about Chile is v good - it's called My Remembered Country or something like that.

Bruce Chatwin's In Patagonia is great - travel writing, but literary travel writing iykwim. Also Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Clandestine in Chile is interesting about making a film undetected by the authorities.
