My book club has decided we would like to tackle a Dickens. Apart from me they are all Dickens virgins. There are 4 I haven't read. Which of these would be the most entertaining/accessible:
Nicholas nickleby
Martin Chuzzlewit
The Old curiosity Shop
Barnaby Rudge?

Probably NN or TOCS, although you've already read the best imo.

Yes: I love Great Expectations and OMF. Thank you for helping me narrow it down.

I like MC best of that lot I must admit but I don't think it's that 'accessible'. Hoe about Hard Times? That is shorter and less character-heavy. Might be a good starter book for Dicken virgins.

My two favourites as well, v good television adaptation of OMF with some big names too

Oh I hate TOCS. Only Dickens I don't love! From your list I'd say NN. My favourite is OMF, but DC and LD close (loving these acronyms!).

KurriKurri · 29/11/2010 20:35

NN would be my favourite of those.

sparklyjewlz · 30/11/2010 07:18

It looks like I'll probably go with Nicholas. Why did you hate TOCS, Belinda?

I hated TOCS too. Definitely not his best. Out of your list I would go for NN.

Personal favourites are DC and BH Grin.

I can't really remember but can't face going back to it to find out! Think it was just weaker characters than usual.

sethstarkaddersmum · 30/11/2010 12:34

I like OMF and BH.
never finished TOCS.
