Hello. We just wanted to jump up and down in an excited way and draw your attention to the fab book freebie being offered to all Mumsnetters by Radox.

We know a fair few of you have claimed your free book already but there are still some left - and we didn't want anyone to miss out.

Just click on the link to find out more - and happy reading!

PS If you haven't claimed your book, can you tell us why? Is it because you're waiting for a different month to get the book you really want?

Thanks

I love Jane Green books so this is fab. Had'nt claimed before because I had never heard about it must've missed it LOL

Thank you

AliceWorld · 26/11/2010 16:45

I'm boycotting the book offer, along with Radox, because their advert talks about 'selfish' time. Since when is putting your feet up and reading a book selfish?! - as if mothers didn't have enough guilt laid on them. We had a discussion about this very thing on the feminist board and I was not alone.

needtogetalife · 26/11/2010 16:48

ooh thankyou, have just claimed mine, I also hadn't heard of it before. Observant as ever I guess Wink

Spirael · 26/11/2010 16:49

I've not claimed a book and I'm not planning to... Because none of them interest me! I'm more of a sci-fi/fantasy reader.

Eleison · 26/11/2010 16:51

Agree with AliceWorld. Awful slogan, and the discussion about it on the Feminist topic was interesting.

Also, the books mostly look like terrible horrible chicklit. Exception is the 'Tractors in Ukranian' one but I have that. April's one is not identified I think.

Slobbadan · 26/11/2010 16:51

I claimed mine because i love reading and nevr turn away a freebie!

bluebump · 26/11/2010 16:51

Ooh thanks i've claimed one. I claimed one they did a while back by Kathy Lette but this reminds me i've not read it yet.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 26/11/2010 16:51

I claimed mine but have not yet received...hmm.

CMOTdibbler · 26/11/2010 16:57

I haven't claimed one as I don't do chicklit

Eleison · 26/11/2010 17:02

I did find it slightly offensive that the books were a wall of cheesy chicklit, as if that is the extent of women's interest in reading. Combined with the 'selfish time' thing, it just presented a rather horrible picture of what the marketing team thought of mothers.

Itsjustafleshwound · 26/11/2010 17:02

I haven't claimed one either as I am no fan of chick lit (or Radox for that matter!!)

Eleison · 26/11/2010 17:08

Perhaps this is a good place to mention Lionel Shriver's piece in the Guardian saying that "publishing's notion of what women want is dated and patronising."

The Radox offer is a marketer's view of women and reading, the same kind of view that distorts publishers' marketing of books to women and the kind of female-authored book that publishers will commit themselves to

midnightexpress · 26/11/2010 17:16

Agree with eleison. Mostly a load of garbage.

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 26/11/2010 17:31

I haven't claimed it as it looks like a crap book

'looking for love' drivel

tried them before, find them boring

lostinwales · 26/11/2010 17:35

Free books! Yippee

Thank you.

Hulababy · 26/11/2010 17:38

Thank you

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 26/11/2010 17:43

it does look like a cerap book, but I've claimed for it.

by the way, I agree with AliceWorld on the fact that it should not be called Selfish Time.

That just implies that women should spend all their time looking after their families without any time for themselves.

They should have come up with a better word or phrase.

And I think we'd all appreciate it if you told them that.

simpson · 26/11/2010 17:53

I don't think the book looks that great either tbh But I will not turn down a freebie!!

Blush Grin

BelleDeChocChipCookieMonster · 26/11/2010 17:58

I've filled it in. If I hate the book I can donate it to the book crossing campaign, you abandon a book somewhere so someone else can pick it up, read it and leave it somewhere for someone else to do the same.

Blatherskite · 26/11/2010 18:00

They did all look a bit chick-lit-y but I claimed one anyway figuring it was worth a go for free :) If it's awful, I've not lost anything for trying it.

Agree with the selfish time being a bit of a rubbish tag. It's taking aaagess to come too which is frustrating

notcitrus · 26/11/2010 18:10

I can't stand chicklit (and yes I have read a fair bit to confirm!).

But the Marian Keyes is stories from her life so I might get that next month, seeing as it's free and all.

Despite disliking the 'selfish' time thing and being allergic to Radox...

MisSalLaneous · 26/11/2010 18:18

I saw the link earlier, and the only book that I might read is the March one (Tractors in Ukrainian). It's unfortunate that you can't select that already, even if it means waiting - I can bet I'll forget all about this by March.

I know it's advertisement, but I appreciate the offer of free books.

BecauseImWorthIt · 26/11/2010 18:18

To be fair to them, they say this:

^We think you spend enough time running around after other people. That's why you deserve to indulge in some much needed me time. It's time to be selfish.

From the day we're born we're taught selfishness is a bad thing. But what's so wrong with being selfish when spending time on ourselves always seems to drop off the 'to do' list?

It just means looking after yourself

Getting a breather from your busy schedule. Doing something you like to do. Making yourself feel happy and putting everything back into perspective. And if you feel happy, you'll make others feel happy. What's so bad about that?^

... therefore acknowledging that women are often/usually our own worst enemies when it comes to doing anything for ourselves. (Although I agree that calling it 'selfish time' is pushing it a bit)

AliceWorld · 26/11/2010 18:24

BIWI why people think it matters here

(And just to say I'm not stalking you - I realise I just replied directly to you about a Kindle too. Pure coincidence honest)
