Justin Cronin's The Passage

I haven't found a thread for this, I understand it's a bit of a literary phenomenon?

I started it a couple of days ago (despite some iffy reviews) and am loving it so far. The first chapter (Amy's early years) had me crying and embarrassing myself in a cafe (I blame pregnancy hormones Grin). I'm about a third of a way through and despite a jump in the storyline I'm finding the whole thing very evocative and beautifully written.

I heard it's going to be a trilogy which tends to put me off- months (even years) to wait for a story to conclude is never much fun.

Anyone else liking it?

I have read it but I'll wait to see what you think once it's finished as I don't want to accidentally give anything away!

Still loving it! I'm nearly finished, the group have split up and the last two are heading to Telluride.
I am dreading an up in the air ending and the long wait for the sequel- if that's what the author is going for.

I read it in the summer and loved it. Apparantly the sequel isn't out till 2012. .

Just finished it and loved it also.
Negatives reviews basically said that the after the jump in the storyline the book became boring- I was gripped throughout and thought it was beautifully written.
The very last line left me traumatised though.

I am halfway through this now and am really enjoying it.
I can't stop thinking about it when I'm not reading it and it has been a long time since a book had me so hooked.
It reminds me of Stephen King's The Stand quite a bit.
I am getting a bit confused atm (have just started part three) but still enjoying.

Just started this book yesterday already 110 pages in it's just, wow, I'm hooked already and so glad it's such a tomb of a book.
I only have a vauge idea of whats going on but the little I know already has gripped and intregiued me.

Mistletoe funny you mention Steven King he's been heaping praise on this book and telling everyone to read it.

Ah, you see, I read it and thought it was okay but about not as good as Stephen King. I thought the author was trying to do a Stephen King. However, I did like the plot, the ending and the characters. But for some reason I just couldn't get really emersed in it. Not sure why.. And I didn't think it was as good as The Dome.
