So I have just got back from the charity shop where I bought 5 books:

Atonement, Ian McEwan
Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte
The Historian, ELizabeth Kostova
Middlemarch, George Eliot
Berlin, Pierre Frei

I'm just finishing The Grapes of Wrath. And now I'm wondering which one to start first.

Any suggestions?

Torn between Middlemarch and Wuthering Heights. Love both - I'll say Middlemarch because everyone else on MN seems to despise WH but they are both wonderful, wonderful books. Not mad on Atonement and haven't read the other two.

So envious of you - you have two real treats in front of you.

The Historian is very good.

I hated Atonement.

Wuthering Heights okay but not great.

Have never managed to finish Middlemarch.

Yes Historian very good - I'd start with that. I liked Atonement, and Middlemarch (it's a bit of a long haul, but worth it - I read it in chunks with breaks for other books in between Grin).
I don't know 'Berlin', but it looks interesting.
