Anybody read/reading 'The Kid'

Did a mnet search but no threads came up.

I'm finding it utterly harrowing and keep thinking I could post great swathes of book on threads here about social services, parenting, etc.

Does it remain so upsetting all the way through? I'm at the point where Kevin is about to turn to crime...

I read it quite a few years ago and couldn't put it down. Very good book IMO.

I bought his second book, but I didn't finish it as it kept going over things in the original which became tedious.
