I am searching for a book I had on my "Good library books" list kindly destroyed by dp or dc (no-one is owning up). I think it is by a man which really narrows it down doesn't it 
. It was set possibly in Norfolk or the Black Country and is about a girl who was brought up to be a witch/herbalist and know all the old folk songs etc by her grand mother? grand father? and got involved in an illegal abortion scandal from the past. There was also a strand about a camp of hippies that set up further down the valley and how she got involved with them too.
