Alone in Berlin

Anyone else reading/read this?

I'm nearly at the end - not a jolly read by any account but totally compelling. In some ways it reminds me of the claustrophobic atmosphere of 1984.

It suffers occasionally from reading like a translation, but the minutiae of life within the restrictive Nazi regime is fascinating and scary at the same time.

I'm hoping the ending will be redemptive/cathartic.

Yes - I read it at start of year and it blew my mind away! So brilliant. Actually think of re-reading it again, as i loved it that much. So scary - and so much better for being written quite soon after war, by someone who lived through it all. Def a different perspective than the usual war stories set in germany.
