Has anyone read this? My MIL has lent it to me with a glowing recommendation and I'm struggling with it, not least the reference to carnal love on the back cover.

My MIL is an enigma to me, I'd love some common ground to talk about but books written in "dialect" get on my pip.

God, that brings back memories. I read this as a teenager and absolutely loved it. I read several others too.

I agree with you about the dialect though, although I think that was what made her writing so special at the time she was published.

My mum banged on for years about a book called The Story of San Michele. I never got round to it, and even she had to admit was dull as ditchwater when she re-read it.

With MiLs you have to persist though < stern face emoticon> - at least it's quite short Wink

Oh, god, I am going to have to read it aren't I? I've been giving myself the stern face emoticon, although I also had a quick look on Amazon to see how much the DVD would be Smile but it's £45!
