Love the magical aspects of this book - as well as the gardening side of things - I think its a magical realism genre.
Anyone help with a recommendation of a book with similar feel?
Many many thanks!

She has written another "Sugar...[something]". Most magical realism I have read is quite different.

Yep - I read the first chapter at the end of garden spells and it was OK but prefer something more flowery!!

What kind of magical realism have you read? (Could you describe the kind of thing - am I on the right track of calling it magical realism??!!)

Thankyou.

Had to look up Garden Spells - been a while since I read it. When you say magical realism I'm thinking along the lines of Allende, Marquez etc.. Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel is very foody and a good read...

More along the line of garden spells would be The Cure for Death by Lighting; the Secret life of bees also is in a similar vein... I's also be tempted to steer you towards Barbarah Kingsolver - the bean trees, pigs in heaven - a few steps removed but could still be said to have a similar feel and are well worth a read

Sugar is a good read, and if you have not already then read Chocolat and The Lollipop Shoes by Joanne Harris. Smile
