I've only read Rum Punch but I liked it

Which of his others would you recommend first staines?

stainesmassif · 09/08/2010 21:53

ooh, now, recently i read the big bounce, which was interesting and unlike his others. more traditionally film noirish. i love out of sight. great characters, funny baddy. get shorty is so much better than the film. cuba libre is probably one of my favourites due to the satisfaction factor.

the thing is, they are all similar in a sense. tough talking lead guy, smart mouth woman he falls for, jive talking baddies that invariably double cross each other, but the dialogue and characterisation is so good, and so much fun to read that i could forgive him for writing the same story 100 times over. and i could read all his books over and again.

see, now i've just written an elmore leonard fan piece!

I want to get hold of a copy of "Fire in the hole" as it was the inspiration behind "Justified", which I love. I believe Elmore was involved in the development of scripts, characters etc and so I'm interested to see what Raylan Givens is like on the page.

stainesmassif · 10/08/2010 19:42

riding the rap also features raylan givens. tis a good un.

Ok, thanks. My basket on amazon is bulging at the seams anyway, so I can't see how a couple more things can hurt!

Amazon is my favourite Internet innovation.

Got into E.L when travelling a few years ago now.. and read loads of his books then - he's such a prolific writer..

His dialogue is so brilliant and the writing so slick.. Haven't read the newer ones although OH buys them as soon as they come out.. He always raves about them but I can't seem to read anything much without falling asleep these days! But I did love the short stories When the Women Come out to Dance..

stainesmassif · 12/08/2010 19:36

Short stories,eh? Interesting......
