Hi mmm, I've just started Audrey niffenegger's 2nd book 'her fearful symmetry' & really enjoying it so far. Just finished wnttakevin & loved it. Have you tried donna tart?

willieversleepagain · 03/08/2010 23:37

Tartt

MathsMadMummy · 03/08/2010 23:42

nope never heard of her.

I would quite like to try a different author, as I hardly ever get to read so would like maximum variety IYSWIM.

I think really I just like very strange books.

Can also recommend Her Fearful Symmetry. Just finished it and enjoyed it very much.

I liked those three too. So, if you like slightly strange books, you might like Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell or anything by John Irving (Owen Meany, Garp). Some of Lionel Shriver's other books, espec A Perfectly Good Family if you enjoy her writing style. Agree with others re Donna Tartt - mainly Secret History, but Little Friend also good.

Thomas Cook Red Leaves is a good choice for Kevin fans.

I love Helen Dunmore - The Siege or A Spell of Winter and agree about Donna Tartt.

Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is also a great book.

I also think you might enjoy Winter's Bone by Daniel Woodrell, about a young girl in the Ozarks.
