Old points plus (or something similar) 2011

Hi, does anyone know if there's an app to support the old points plus plan? Or whatever it was around 2011? The one with 18 points per day that had a crazy calculator made of card?

Oh how I wish there was. I did really well on the old points system. I curse the day I threw out the calculator wheel!

I think there were several iterations of the points plan that pre-dated the 'ProPoints' version where everything was recalculated and fruit became zero. I joined in 2006 when it was called 'Switch' and you could choose between the 'NoCount' plan (like Slimming World) and 'Points'. I think the minimum Points allowance was about 16 and I got 20 when I first started, reducing down to 18 as my weight reduced. If you google 'WeightWatchers Switch' there are points calculator scales available, and also recipe books. I have not been able to find a 'Shopping Guide' or calculator (or a cardboard wheel!) but they may come up for sale on ebay etc from time to time. There are websites that will help you calculate your Points allowance like this one: Weight Watchers Allowance - Original Points System (exercise4weightloss.com)

This Weight Watchers Allowance overview is for their original points system.

Oooh, I'm looking at that website now and it is talking about 'Flex' points - they definitely weren't A Thing when I first did WW!!! So maybe ignore that 😕
On NoCount you used to get 21 points, but the proper 'vintage' points plan was just a daily allowance - you could save points to use later in the week, but you didn't get extras, that didn't come in until a few years later. That may be the plan you remember? Was fruit zero or did it have points when you did it?

I distinctly remember half points - I think an apple was half a point!

I think that sounds like the same plan I did all those years ago - an apple was half a point, but so was a rich tea biscuit! I obviously chose the latter more often than not. They also used to do delicious little fromage frais pots that were only half a point. If you use the 'Switch' guides then they will be the same plan by the sounds of it.

Super! I remember being quite hungry at times but losing loads on that plan!

Actually, I think the small flat dairy milk bars were good value as well.

There’s a Facebook group called “Weight Watchers Old Points System”, loads of info including how to calculate your points, the slide points thing & links to something you can save to your phone to calculate points.

I also did very well on the old Pro Points system, and have since found The Ultimate Food Value Diary app (free app) which operates that very system.

I've just rejoined WW again, and their current scheme is so strict that I fear I may fall off the wagon really quickly, but if I do, I will will be back to the Ultimate app, which is a bit more generous.

Given how many people are still asking about Pro Points, I wonder if WW would considering bringing it back?

Lizzieregina · 05/02/2024 12:58

I still have and use my little card points calculator! I think there’s an app that lets you use that old system. I can’t remember the name of it but if it comes to me, I’ll come back and update this.

Lizzieregina · 05/02/2024 12:59

Sorry double post.

emsyj37 · 07/02/2024 09:46

Do you really think the new system is more strict @PinkEasterbunny ? The reviews I've seen seem to suggest that it isn't proving as successful for many as the previous programmes. I like the look of the current system but I'm put off by the number of comments I've seen on social media that many are finding it ineffective.

PinkEasterbunny · 07/02/2024 10:17

The new system gives me 23 points per day, plus 21 weeklies. The old system was 26 points per day, plus 49 weeklies, I could just about stick to this and it worked. Just enough leeway for a meal out at the weekend which made things bearable!
