Goal weight

Just wondering how everyone sets their goal weight? Why did you pick that specific weight?

I'm plateauing 9lbs from goal, my eating and exercise are spot on, I should be losing, I'm not, I've set 10st 6lb as my goal weight as that is the very top end of my healthy BMI range.

I chose mine by the weight I had been happiest at in the past. It puts me right in the middle of a healthy BMI

I chose mine as the very top of the healthy band. I did this for a few reasons.

  1. I'm a LONG way from any healthy target so trying to make it as achievable as possible was important. (I had 5st9.5lb to lose at the start of my journey just to get to the healthy band)
  2. I have a build with very wide hips and shoulders and so even when healthy tend toward a higher weight.
  3. I have previously been extremely sporty with a very lean build and very low body fat (and not huge muscles) and even at that time in my life I did not weigh much less than the top of my bracket.
  4. I can always set myself a new lower target as and when I reach this goal if it seems feasible.

I set my goal right at the top end of a healthy bmi.

I hit it eventually. Now I'm gold member it gives me a bit of leway as I only need to be 5lb above or below it so pressures off a bit now iyswim

Thanks all, my goal is the very top of my BMI, I've got my last 11lb to go and it's going at a snails pace now, I know that can be normal although I've lost 6stone in 18months and that's tended to be at 1-2lb a week, now it's more like 0.5lb a week with a stay the same dotted in and around the losses, which got me thinking maybe the top end of my BMI might be too low.

11lb to go now as I had an unexplained 4lb gain 😫 I can only assume that it's down to me having started running in an attempt to break my plateau, I read that if you change your exercise it can jump start things!

The last few pounds are the toughest. It took me a couple of months to lose the last 3-4. Stick with it, you've got this far you'll get there

How do you set your goal weight?

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 21/05/2020 19:58

Mine is set right at the bottom of my BMI. My body fat needs to be as low as possible in order for my stage competitions.

I set mine mid point so 10 stone between 9 2 and 11 2 range. I cried on the scales the day I got to goal and will never forget that.
