How useful do you find meetings?

Hi everyone

I'd be really interested to hear how useful people find meetings and how much of an impact you think it has on your weight loss.

I have been thinking about joining WW meetings for a while and although I think it could be a good idea I am struggling to find the time and decide whether to or not. Due to a stressful and very busy job with long hours I am not able to go during the week. The only class I could get to is one on a Saturday morning. The problem is it starts quite early and is also on the other side of town and because this is pretty much the only day I don't work and can have a bit of a rest, I am so tempted not to go because I am just shattered ad need a break from constantly rushing around. On the other hand I am worried that without attending a class I will struggle.

Interested to hear what others think...

xx

Hi gemi.

  • I find my class an essential part of my weight loss however I have a great class with only about 40'people. We've all got to know each other and now it's like a group of friends meeting once week. I get great ideas, inspiration and support from my group.

I follow No Count plan and I am part of a fbook group which follows No Count they are a great bunch with fabulous recipes and ideas. I lost 4.5 stone over a year and a half.

Have you thought about joining online?

Hi

Thanks for your reply. I have thought about online but like you, I think if I am going to do it the support of a meeting is what I would need. I just wish I had more time! I didn't go yesterday because something came up and I couldn't make it anyway but know I will struggle again with time next Saturday even though I would like to go,

I found the online versions very poor. It is basically access to all the material and a weekly weigh-in - that's it! SW had a type of food logging but it was much poorer than MyFitnessPal.

Would joining a group here on MN combined with tracking on MyFitnessPal work?

I've been a member multiple times under different programs, first time in around 1989. I think the current regime of focusing on "points" (equivalent to counting calories) is less helpful. Personally I find 5:2 more useful, in combination with cutting out on sweeteners and cutting down on refined sugar.
Try it out, if you feel it's right for you, but keep an eye on those other methods too, and don't hesitate to make a switch.

Thank you for the replies. I guess I'll have to give it some thought and think about what will work best for me,

I can't do it without class. In saying that the class time suits me and I enjoy going. I will go for the rest of my life and never be fat again. Can't go right now as I am way under goal due to bereavement and need to put on a few lbs first but I miss it

I find the meetings useful. When I attend every week, I stick with the plan the rest of the time, and the plan works for me. When I slack off about attending meetings, I also get get sloppy about following the program, which doesn’t really work.

I find my classes make a massive difference to me weight loss. It's great talking to
Other people in the same situation and sharing meal ideas too definitely recommend going to as many meetings as possible
