And I'm little confused. I have 30 smartpoints to use daily and 35 weekly. I don't really know what that means, what are the 35 weekly points? Surely if I have 30 a day I have 210 weekly?

Hello! I joined on Sunday night and yesterday was my first full day. I haven't done WW for about 15 years or so, so it's totally different than last time I did it.
What I've worked out so far (I'm on the same points as you) is that you get 30 per day to use as your normal daily allowance. Plus you get an extra 35 to use as a buffer zone, kind-of thing. So if you go over your 30 in a day, you take those points off your weekly allowance.
Your daily points are to be used every day and not rolled over.
Your weekly points are for the whole week and reset every week.

I'm sure someone who has been doing it longer will correct me if that's not right!

Does that help?

Yes your daily points are just that. They are used each day and can not be carried over to another day. Your weeklies can be used a few each day or you can save some/most/all your weeklies for extras at the weekends. The weeklies are for you to use as you like. So if you were to spread your weeklies out evenly over the week, that would be an extra 5 points each day.

In the beginning, I spread them out pretty evenly over the week, but now I tend to save more of my weeklies to use over the weekend, as I tend to need them more then! Or sometimes I use them, if I am having a meal out. There is a questions as to whether you should use your weeklies. I have always had all my daily points and my weekly points every week. I have been going for a year now and have lost over 8st so far, so I know it works. My coach always says to use all your daily and weekly points, but I know some people have different views. I am also using some of my fitpoints I earn too.

Personally I would say use all your points, if you can. Just decide when you may need some flexibility of extra points for whatever reason, or divide them equally over the week. As you lose weight, your points will reduce gradually over time. I started on 57 points a day and am currently in 35. I think when you get to 30 points a day, then after that, your weeklies will start to reduce by 7 (which averages as 1 point a day less). If you are adding extra treats for now to just use up all your points, it is easier to reduce those/cut them out over time, as your points reduce, in the future. For me, having extra treats was what helped keep me going in the early part of my journey.

Good luck with your first week!

Thank you both that's so helpful! I couldn't work out what the weekly points were but that makes total sense now! Thanks again. Smile

I have been 3-4 points under yesterday and today, so I haven't touched my weeklies yet. I'm not saving my daily points though, so I'm sticking to that rule!
I'm planning to use most of the weeklies at weekend as I think I'll need them for a few G&Ts on Friday night.
I'll see if I can lose weight that way, but if not I'll spread them out a bit more!

Good luck - keep us posted :)

DoubleGin - it should be fine. If it doesn't work out so well the first week, stick with that format as it should sort itself out. I use lots of extra points over the weekend and weigh on a Tuesday. They are there to be used however you like, so definitely make them fit into your lifestyle, to help keep you on plan!

WhataHexIgotinto · 12/07/2017 22:43

So does that mean that of I save my weeklies, I could have 65 points on a Saturday if I was out or something? Or is that daft?

Yes you could do. It may be that you don't see a great loss the first time you do that, but as long as you are eating no more than your total allowed points each week, you should still see regular losses and for me, having the flexibility to do that is what has helped keep me on track for the past year. I have never stuck to a plan for this long before, and usually give up everything and feel deprived at some point in the future, or end up with meals out and eat too much. Yes, I can't have it all, I have to have things in moderation and sometimes choose between one thing or another. But the fact I can have a choice really helps me. I am viewing this as a lifestyle change, so what I do, needs to be sustainable in the long term, not just the immediate term. I have failed too many times in the past and put weight lost straight back on. This time I am losing it for good. So definitely look at how the plan will realistically fit into your lifestyle. If you like going out on a Saturday to eat or drink, then see how you can still do that, keeping within your overall points allowance. You may need to make some sacrifices or changes, but as long as you can still enjoy yourself and not feel deprived then it makes it so much easier to stay on track.

Great, thanks. I have to say I'm finding this much easier to follow than SW possibly because the app is so good and makes keeping track so easy. Wish me luck!

Only time I tried SW was many years ago when they had the red and green days. Much prefer WW to anything else I have ever tried. The app is great - I am so lost without it when I am away and have a rubbish mobile connection! It is better to lose slowly. I have had lots of times I have gained despite staying on plan, but I try to look at the total loss over a month rather than what the scales say each week. Good luck!

MakeMineADoubleGin · 13/07/2017 12:30

I can't wait for Friday, as I have planned how I'm using all 35 of my weekly points! Grin
I've been at/slighty under my dailies all week, so I am hoping that the calculations work out ok and I still have a decent loss. My WI day is wednesday so I have time to pull it back if I have a gincident!

I did SW for a long time, pre-kids and then couldn't get back into it after and I wanted to lose a couple of stone. So, that's why I went back to WW. First time I did it (15 years ago) I lost 4 stone! So I hope that coming back to it again suits me.

The app is so, so helpful and easy. I think if SW did one people would lap it up too! I find the WW connect ok, but a bit jumbled. It's handy but I do like a good old-fashioned forum.

sez49 · 13/07/2017 19:56

First time I did WW was about 25 years ago! I lost over 5st but never quite made it to goal. Yes, I am not keen on the Connect thing, the old forums were far better. Enjoy Friday!

First weigh in tonight - down 4.5lbs, so quite pleased with that. 😊
