Another horrific week at work but all that cortisol seems to be working in my favour for once as I'm a pound down, so 17'7" today. Next week is likely to be intense again, so no pressure on myself on the food front, but soon I will be 'funemployed' and have time for making lovely salads, fish and veg etc.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/06/2023 09:26

Morning everyone! Leaving our holiday today. We’ve had such a lovely week but I’m glad to be going home. I’m going to do my shopping order on the journey to click and collect, and be all ready for my 40 day challenge which I’m very excited about. We have a lot of things on in the next few weeks so there will be obstacles but I can still do 40 days before i’m 40 and have a couple of cheat days. Dreading the scales tomorrow but then very looking forward to hiding them and getting healthier! we are out tonight with friends for ds’s birthday for a curry and a few drinks.

Have a great weekend all.

effiesgoldwig · 03/06/2023 14:18

The end of a week off work here too. Back in on Monday so back in a routing which helps, but tired again which doesn't. Having a massive bbq tomorrow so that's a danger zone. Going to try and be extra good today to make up for it.

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/06/2023 16:08

Aww nice you are getting time off, I've been too slow to put holidays in, having to wait now for availability, going to be putting lots in though 🤭

In the meantime, trying to improve my eating habits even more as suffered quite a bit of bloating recently and so trying to be a bit more careful of what I'm eating.

I'm thinking of not eating during my 12 hour shifts due to bloating and feeling sleepy after eating.

Tiredanddistracted · 04/06/2023 16:10

Hi all, hope its OK if I join you! I've got a good 4.5 stone left to lose and its sloooow going. I've shifted 1.5 since Jan but my pace has been essentially glacial because I am, fundamentally, quite shit at dieting these days.

As I said on another thread, I'm doing Slimming World. It worked incredibly well for me in the past, but lately not so much! I think because I'm not keeping to the spirit of it - not enough veg on my plate, nutritionally crap choices etc. Often VERY hungry, which isn't how it's supposed to be really.

I've decided to incorporate a lot more nutritionally rich ingredients, whilst still using the Slimming World basic structure.

Food today has been tuna salad with mixed beans, celery and tomatoes, mixed with fat free greek yoghurt on a bed of spinach. A few olives on top. Wholemeal pitta on the side.

Going to have 40g reduced fat cheddar with chopped apple for a snack later and harissa salmon with green veg and herby mash for tea. Will probably have a cornetto for afters!

Hoping adding to this thread will keep this fun and accountable for me!

@Tiredanddistracted ... you're welcome...@poorpaws is our fearless leader but we all welcome new comers.
We are all doing different things and there is no judgement and we only give advice or tips or critical challenge if it's asked for..
We are all ages, shapes, sizes ..
I'm mid 50's... menopausal and struggling with the way my body changed shape ..I'm also on the slowest ever rehab program for two slipped discs and something called spondylosis...I'm a keen runner but well...not actually keen to get up and do it but love when it's done
I need to stop using my calories up in wine ..and eat more protein 😁

Tiredanddistracted · 04/06/2023 20:41

Thanks @Theredjellybean!

I, too, have an issue around drinking my calories. It's got to the point now that I just can't let myself drink more than once a fortnight or it all goes tits up.

I'm 41 and menopause is definitely on the horizon. I feel like I want to get it sorted now so it doesn't get even harder later, iyswim. Also, things HURT nowadays. A few weeks ago I fell over when on a night out and it took a ridiculously long time to feel better. I spent a long time wondering if I've now reached the age wherein one 'has a fall' rather than 'falls over'.

Thanks so much for the welcome!

Theredjellybean · 04/06/2023 21:20

I had this discussion recently with friends...when do you stop just falling over and instead have a fall...
I tripped rushing recently in central London..I was in running kit and trainers...I don't look old and decrepit but two , admittedly lovely, young women came and helped me up and dusted me down but we're most concerned I was going to run on...they said "you've had a fall don't you think you should go to hospital"...no the only thing damaged was my pride !

Tiredanddistracted · 04/06/2023 21:25

Oh my god, I could not have handled the CONCERN! Did they do the sympathetic head tilt?

I teach secondary school and, when it was icy, a teenage boy said, in all seriousness, "I suppose you have to be extra careful with icy pavements and whatnot at your age?". Felt like the crypt keeper.

poorpaws · 04/06/2023 22:01

@Tiredanddistracted welcome. I'm not sure about fearless leader, I'm more the fearful failure.

@Theredjellybean how are you? I hope you aren't quite so sad now, realising dsd is in the right place. Sending you a big hug.

I've had a week from hell, eaten out a lot and made snacking an Olympic sport at which I win gold daily <sigh>. I can feel the pounds going on. I'm not weighing tomorrow and aim to try harder (which is exactly what I said last week).

Well done gang, everyone else seems to be on track. I need to pull my socks up (will that help me lose weight 😁).

I'm back with my tail between my legs. I've been on holiday for a week and there was a lot of alcohol and food. A lot. The scales will punish me severely but will weigh in as usual on Friday and do what I can until then. I'm going to be hungry today, my body is out of the habit of moderation.

On the subject of falls, I fell off my bike last week. It was very low speed and I felt like an absolute tit. No one was there but I know it would have been captured on the work security camera. I hope the footage never comes to light. I have several massive bruises.

Zebracat · 05/06/2023 12:54

I’m 63 and I still dont have falls, even tho I fall over quite a lot!
95.6 today so a loss of almost a kilo. I really don’t deserve it. I was really hungry most of last week, and craving icecream, and therefore eating icecream But also quite active, so it must have balanced. Even so, another month when I did not meet a very modest target, to get under 95 kilos. This month I’m going to try and get under 94.

poorpaws · 05/06/2023 13:09

@Zebracat you are doing well, just keep on trying for the magical number (that I never seem to reach 😖).

I'm starting again (and many more agains recurring) today. I've already done a long dog walk early this morning (it's soo hot here) and I've just finished my exercises 😇. A light lunch next and then I have to negotiate dinner tonight and a snack free evening which will be so very hard for me.

Have a lovely sunny day everyone.

The 'falls' seem to get us all in the end...

I've had a good day so far today. Back to work after half term which means, a) structure and routine and b) too busy to listen to the internal food chatter. Also, waaay more active.

I've had vegetable omelette muffins for breakfast and tuna and three bean salad for lunch. Snacks were apples and a portion of low fat cheese.

Dinners going to be a baked sweet potato with chicken and light mayo, with rocket and roasted veg on the side.

Then I'm going to have another Cornetto. Classy.

Zebracat · 06/06/2023 13:57

@Tiredanddistracted . I like the sound of breakfast muffins. Could you point me to the recipe?
Swam a mile this morning, but then had a twix. Such is life.

Tiredanddistracted · 06/06/2023 21:13

@Zebracat - not really a recipe. They're so simple as to be quite dull! I chop and Fred red onion and mushrooms, put them in muffin cases, added some chopped spinach and then poured beaten egg over the top. Then I put them in the oven for 10/15 mins. I mixed some grated cheese in with the egg too.

I've heard you can add quinoa to make it more of a muffiny consistency but it just felt a bit wanky? I might try next time though!

Another decent day today. Staying strong with loading up on veg and sugar only once a day (usually ice cream in evening). Feeling kind of strong physically and proud of myself for resisting the urge to binge after some frustrating fuckery at work. Came home, took a very deep breath and made my Chinese pork recipe as planned. Taken my first step into a larger world 😂

Tiredanddistracted · 06/06/2023 21:14

*chop A red onion. No Freds were harmed in the making of these muffins.

effiesgoldwig · 06/06/2023 21:59

Welcome aboard @Tiredanddistracted

I switched my scales to kg for a change at the start of this week but I've decided I'm not keen. I don't feel so in control because I can't compare it to what I'm used to.

I have to lose 1stone 11 (about 11.5kg) in order to get myself into "overweight" instead of obese so that's my main target. Half a stone by the summer holidays. Another stone by Christmas so I'll start 2024 overweight but happy about it.

Is that ambitious enough? That's about 2kg a month for 6 months. I'm wondering if I should be all in and aiming to wipe it all off faster.

I can definitely tell the difference in my energy levels just with what I've lost so far. I don't feel so tired all the time. And im taking better care of myself physically too. I've started shaving my legs again regularly for the first time in ages. I moisturise now. Maybe that's just because once I hit 40 I realised how tired my skin was starting to look though...

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/06/2023 23:03

Hi all. Mainly due to bloating issues, I've cut down a lot on food over the last few days (I think I have anyways, I've not actually kept track). I was having a lot of soup and rice with chicken and fish but have stopped. Somehow I don't seem to have binged on other foods (touch wood).

I'm hoping if I keep going, I will notice a difference. I'm giving myself little fasting challenges, (how long I can go without eating), sensibly though.

I've done quite well at shopping and having few treats in the kitchen cupboards when I frequently visit helps a lot as well 😂.

Vebrithien · 07/06/2023 06:49

Weigh day.

92.9kg!

1.5 kg lost since the last weigh day.
7.1 kg lost in about 6 weeks.

I also managed a run of 20 mins today (Week 5, Run 3 of Couch 2 5K). 6 weeks ago, I was struggling to run for 1 min at a time.

I could hopefully be just overweight, this time next week.

TalkToTheHand123 · 07/06/2023 07:36

Aww well done @Vebrithien , very inspiring, I may dust off the treadmill tonight. I seem to always overdo itand set myself back. I need to learn to pace myself. Or just make sure I get plenty of rest afterwards.

Zebracat · 07/06/2023 15:35

@Vebrithien well done. That is fantastic. You are definitely keeping me in touch with what is possible. I’m doing ok though 5his week, I think.

instantpotnoodle · 07/06/2023 15:44

I still haven’t stepped on the scale since coming back from holiday last Friday….😬

Tiredanddistracted · 09/06/2023 21:39

Well hello! It is I, the Mayor of Failure!

After a week in which I crammed myself full of vegetables (sounds dubious), despite some very stressful work stuff, I rather fucked it today.

I had a day off, did hard physical work in the garden for 7 hours and then ate 3 magnums and 3 slices of cake.

I am mighty.

effiesgoldwig · 09/06/2023 23:13

@Tiredanddistracted you are funny! If you're the Mayor of Failure I'm the Lady of Lard. But seriously. One bad day in a week of being good won't have undone all your hard work. I'm sure you'll still get a loss.

I'm definitely in a monthly cycle where I don't lose any weight until the 7 days before my period where I drop about a pound a day, then put 4 back on when my period starts. It's just bizarre but also frustrating that I'm being good and nothing is shifting.

Or maybe I'm not being as good as I think I am. Perhaps I should drop my calories down a bit but I don't want to be miserable because I'm hungry all the time.
