@Zebracat happy birthday 🎈

PinkArt · 07/07/2023 21:12

Not heart but I have of my lungs, when I had blood clots, @Zebracat. A stranger lubing up your boobs in the middle of the afternoon is an interesting experience for sure!
Welcome @Beeinalily! I've never had diagnosed depression but think I've skirted on the edges of it at times. I would say find a way to remind yourself that it's not for other people, it's for you and you matter very much. Who cares if other people notice what you look like. You can care about how you look but more importantly how you feel. It sounds like you're off to a great start with the weight loss and this is an excellent group for support.

@Beeinalily welcome to the most supportive thread on mumsnet. Good to have you here.

@PinkArt . Exactly.

TalkToTheHand123 · 08/07/2023 10:07

Hi all, 5 weeks to holiday which is giving me a bit of focus!

I had the pleasure of watching an office full tuck into curry and chips yesterday! Feels better now though and touch wood I can continue.

Exercise wise, I've just been doing various tummy muscle stretches. I like to do at top of stairs and use gravity to help. Best one seems to be just lying in bed doing them, so when having a panic lose weight moment I may just go lay on bed or couch to do them. 😊

Beeinalily · 08/07/2023 14:36

Thank you @PinkArt and @poorpaws .

effiesgoldwig · 08/07/2023 19:24

Welcome aboard @Beeinalily I second what @PinkArt says. Do it for nobody else apart from yourself. You are definitely worth it.

Good evening ladies. I had a nice day today but my food was not on plan. I did a healthy breakfast but then we went to town for a mooch about and ended up taking the kids to Five Guys, so my lunch was 1200 calories of delicious bacon cheeseburger and fries 😋
however, what I haven’t done is decided that I might as well eat all the crap because I’ve blown it and therefore I have ended the day on just shy of 2000 cals (let’s not mention the carbs!) but that’s really good and a very positive step for me because I’m normally the first to say F-it once I’ve had something off plan. I ran this morning and it was tough and really hot but at least I got out there.

tomorrow: I want to run again and do some sort of strength training as I’ll be back at the gym this week.
food will be: Greek yogurt (plus I have some rhubarb to stew which I will have with it), salad and cheese or tuna, then dinner will be some chicken thighs and veg as a tray bake.

Beeinalily · 09/07/2023 08:38

Thank you @effiesgoldwig . I was an absolute sod yesterday, felt depressed and ate every sweet thing I could find. I could feel the depression coming on before that, that's why I asked about it. But today is another day, and I'm going to pick myself up, brush myself down, and start all over again!

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 09/07/2023 10:25

Hi everyone

I'm still at 13.13 and I am slightly surprised to have maintained as I have lost focus this last week. I had half a 100g bag of revels for breakfast today, wtf!

It's 3 weeks to my holiday so I need to crack on to meet my sub goal of 13.6

Does anyone do any HIIT? I'm considering it as I've lost all will to run on the treadmill (I'm still walking on it at brisk speed but just cant find it in me to run atm).

All suggestions welcomed!

PinkArt · 09/07/2023 12:26

I'm channeling my inner @thenewaveragebear1983 again today 🤣 Yesterday I did derail and had a well I've started to eat shit so I might as well continue night. It's so good to remind myself that I don't need to sabotage like that. Bring on the vegetables!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/07/2023 13:00

@MrJollyLivesNextDoor i love hiit workouts. I do a class but I will also do home workouts. I love the variety and flexibility of it. Download a free hiit timer app, you can then set it for your work/rest so depending on your fitness you might do 30 seconds on/ 30 seconds rest or 90:30 or 45:15 or whatever. Then set the number of rounds, so you might do 15 minutes of 45 work: 15 rest. Then work out your exercises- and go for it. The cardio rounds keep you fat burning while you’re doing the strength rounds, and you never need to do more than 45 seconds of any exercise without a little breather. It’s the best way to burn fat through exercise.

Theredjellybean · 09/07/2023 16:44

I weighed in today at a somewhat amazing 70.9 kgs...
I don't feel that weight...my body is so flabby compared to several yrs ago when at this weight I didn't have a roll or wobble.
Oh well...still feeling pleased.

I love HIIT too...I use burn360 program for weights and HIIT but like newwavebear have made up my own before.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/07/2023 20:30

I’ve had another ok day today. Not brilliant- ended up having a bread roll and a Portuguese custard tart, but ok calorie wise (ended on about 1600) which is over my target but not bad at all for a weekend, and even though both yesterday and today I have gone over, I haven’t drunk alcohol this weekend and I have tracked everything I have eaten so I reckon it’s significantly better than previous weekends.

my week ahead is looking pretty average. All meals are planned, and I’m trying to get my workouts into the Diary for the week. My plan is to really really focus on getting the carbs low and sticking religiously to calories. I need one last push /boost before my birthday which is 10 days from now. Lots of water, get back to the gym and running, and a few early nights.

Zebracat · 10/07/2023 09:07

96.4 so gained 300 grams. That’s not bad really, for my birthday week. I have surgery on Thursday if the meeting today goes well. It’s like preparing for the worst holiday ever, I feel lack lustre about everything. I wanted to have everything in good order because I wont be able to do much for 6 weeks, but I think there’s not much point, my house and garden and body will go to pot anyway. I have a feeling I will be back over 100 kilos and properly struggling in 6 weeks.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/07/2023 11:12

I weighed in this morning at 154.5lbs, tantalisingly close to the 10’s now….

@Zebracat oh I feel for you, it’s so hard when you feel that it’s out of your control - however it IS still in your control if you want it to be. I don’t know what your situation is and whether this could work for you but you could maybe batch cook a few things in prep (eg a big chilli/bolognese/curry with lots of veg?) that you could portion up and then that’s lunches sorted for when you’re not feeling great? You can make overnight oats several days in advance as well so you could prep a few days worth in advance and add fresh or frozen fruit. I add chia seeds to mine for extra fibre and it really does help especially if pain relief is making you constipated. Then at least you have some healthy options and you don’t resort to toast “just because”. However, you are recovering and I don’t think you should be too hard on yourself if you feel like comfort food either.

effiesgoldwig · 10/07/2023 12:00

Sorry you're having such a tough time @Zebracat - stick with us you can do it. Some good ideas from @thenewaveragebear1983 as well. Try and keep reaching for nutritious options to help your recovery even though you want chocolate. I have a stash of freddos to keep my chocolate cravings at bay. Don't be afraid to treat yourself a little every day if it keeps you on the wagon.

14st13.5 here today so well and truly into the 14s now. Exactly 95kg as well which is a nice round number. Less than two weeks til my birthday now though so 14.10 might be a bit beyond me but still within reach.

I treated myself with a trip to matalan yesterday and took size 18 and 20 into the changing room but only needed to try the 18s on which means I've dropped 2 dress sizes as well as this time last year I was in a 22!!!

Zebracat · 10/07/2023 13:22

Thank you@effiesgoldwig and @thenewaveragebear1983 . Good ideas. . My Dh will cook for me and he will cook light. I have porridge with chia and pumpkin every morning, and I will keep that up. I will keep coming here, I know it will fall apart if I don’t. Freddos are a good shout!

Hello all - new member here 👋🏻

Ive joined because over the last 6 months the weight has been slowly creeping on, for various reasons, and now I want to do something about it.

I’ve downloaded a calorie counter App and I’m a little confused about something…. I know it’s probably a stupid and obvious question but I’m in need of some clarification to help me understand the weight loss process.

When I enter foods into my App it records how many calories that meal contained and how much fat. But I always thought calories and fat were the same thing?

And for some food items I’m getting a low number for the calorie content, but the fat content is really high? How does that work?

Am I supposed to be looking at the Fat readings or the Calorie readings when it comes to weight loss???

Thanks all.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/07/2023 13:56

@MyTruthIsOut calories is the total energy value of the food. That total is made of all your different nutrients and the 3 macro nutrients of protein/carb/fat. Foods high in fat will by default be high in calories per 100g because fat is the most calorific of the macronutrients (9 cal per gram of pure fat) but it doesn’t mean that all fatty food is higher in calories than other things because you might eat less of it. Plus foods are usually a mix of at least 2 of protein/fat/carb - eg meat will be protein + fat but no carb. You might chose to just track your calories for now, or you might choose to keep an additional eye on your carb intake or your fat intake.
what app are you using? I use nutracheck and they have changed the diary now to show all the macros but I find it a bit overwhelming, i prefer to just see calorie and carb totals. I’ve uploaded my diary for today- the calories is numerical value and the nutrient totals are number of grams if each that make up the calorie totals.

Thank you for that - I will have to read it a few times to fully understand it but it’s a good starting point 😂

I’m also using Nutra Check and as you can see from my photo, my “I can’t believe it’s not bitter” hasn’t many calories, yet it’s fat content is in the red? I just feel overwhelmed and confused.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/07/2023 15:36

So the reason for that is because, per 100g of “I can’t believe it’s not butter” has a high (red) fat content- obviously, because it’s a fat. Olive oil, tinned mackerel, avocado, salmon - these would also show as red because of their high fat content, but in a balanced diet they are not a problem and are actually necessary for health and healthy weight loss. Notice that your eggs have more overall grams of fat, but are orange. That’s because grams of fat per 100g of the food is in the medium range, not high. Finally, notice that your white bread has a green for fat - but arguably white bread is the least healthy and nutrient rich item in that meal. I suppose what I am saying is don’t be blinded by those traffic lights, they are quite a rudimentary instrument with which to measure the overall ‘value’ of a food.

instantpotnoodle · 10/07/2023 16:16

had a big weekend of meals and drinking, and also had an injury for a week so not as much exercise. Have tried to readjust to “normal eating”! Think I need to drop my calorie allowance as feel I’m maintaining at the mo which is annoying. Will decide at the end of this week. Hope everyone has a positive week!

MyTruthIsOut · 10/07/2023 16:29

Thank you for that!! So it’s better to try and put the traffic light system aside and focus more on what my calorie intake is?

Theredjellybean · 10/07/2023 17:31

@MyTruthIsOut .. welcome.
In simplest terms..you need to eat less calories than your body uses...and we all have a different calorie need.
I'm mid 50's , menopausal and 5ft 3.5 inches.
I have a sedentary job but walk dogs, clean my own house, am relatively active generally...and I need to eat 1200 calories a day to achieve weight loss.
I use my fitness pal...and just log everything. I don't use any of the fancy bits on the app...just calories counting.
