Hi there,

I have raised money for Kidney Research UK in the past as my partner suffers from Polycystic Kidneys and every little helps I guess...Anyway, I recieve regular e-mails from them rgarding events taking place and when one popped up informing me there were still places in the Great north Run, I stupidly signed up!!

You may wonder what is so nuts about me doing this, but I had a baby nearly 9 months ago, haven't excerised for about a year and am carrying about 4 extra stones than I need!!!!

I really need to lose some weight fast (but sensibly) and start some sort of training programme (have started brisk walking, occasionally broke in to a run and nearly collapsed ).

I am confident I can finish the run, but any support or advice gratefully accepted

Wow! Well done. When is the run?

I would say don't go low carb, or you would not have the energy to run. Plenty of low GI foods such as brown pasta, brown rice, beans, nuts and pulses. Also protein at every meal.

I do run but no more than about 3 miles at a time, 2 minutes of brisk walking then 1 minutes of slow jogging to start with will get you there.

I did the Great South Run in 2003, I used to run about x4 per week. Still got the t-shirt!

It's on 19th September so I don't really have much time, I'll be happy if I finish it in one piece

I must learn to control my spontaneous side ha ha!

I have improved my diet, dropping sweet stuff, more fruit and veg etc, trying to vaguely follow the slimming world plan. I think I've lost a little weight, bit it needs to be a lot more or my poor knees will be done for
