Hi,
New to this bit of the site. DD2 nearly two and I still haven't shed the 2 stone. What's worse is I seem to be getting bigger.

I really need some tips and some motivation although I'm hoping the holiday to Malta will do that. I only work one day a week at the moment but DH is away a lot either in London, Europe or the States so evening wise just fri is free for me plus the w/e.

I have gym membership but don't get much chance to go. I have two DCs at school and one at home so days out too. I know I need to exercise more but no family or close friends locally to babysit.

I basically eat junk. I'm so exhausted each evening that sometimes I dont even cook just snack on rubbish. I know it's a vicious circle. Trouble is I'm at home alone sometimes every everning but Sat so boredom and a little depression sets in and so it goes on.

But I've had enough as I'm starting to feel unwell and unhealthy and old too. Please, please can anyone give me a bit of advice.

Oh and if anyone wants to come along for the ride then feel free.

I would advise yoga and pilates. As well as 'normal' muscles, you are excercising your core muscles too. You can buy DVD's and do it in your own time, or go to classes. Also things like getting off a bus stop a stop earlier, or taking stairs instead of a lift.

As well as this, carry around nuts, dried fruits etc. as then if you feel peckish, you can nibble on those. I know when I'm at work and feel peckish, I'm straight to the vending machine for crisps and chocolate. However, the times I remember to take fruit etc. I sit and nibble on that instead.

I think doing small things like these which are easy to incorporate into everyday life is better than suddenly going to the gym 4 times a week and just living on veg. And if you do it long enough, it is a healthy habit to get into. Good luck with your weight loss

Set a realistic target for starters.

If you're at home alone every evening then you can do an exercise dvd. Have a look for the "shred" threads on here to get inspired - it's only 20 minutes every day. I'm half way through and although I haven't lost much weight, I'm fitting into clothes a size smaller and can really feel my core strength increasing. hth.

i heard the trampolines are really good and fun but i think you need a calorie controlled diet,
i did a 1000 kcal a day diet before and lost loads

good luck

I seem to be putting on weight with swollen ankles too. Went to see gP last week and put on diuretics.

Lost 7lbs in 24hrs by peeing constantly !!

Hadnt realised that you could retain fluid like that.

Thanks everyone!

Pilates sounds good if I can find a class I can make. I will look into an exercise video. Is there one on here that's particularly recommended? (maybe I'll start a thread)

Ive done a 1000cal a day diet before and it works very well but each time Ive done it the weight has piled back on plus some so I'd rather a steady loss.

I would really like to lose a stone before my holiday though not sure if this is realistic. I'm 5"6 and 11.5 stone.

Well, you're not much different me weight- and height-wise I have to say that 2 stone is possibly a leeetle ambitious. I hate exercise and I hate dieting but I have really stuck with this because it's only 20 mins and so far it seems to have started working. There's a thread about it here and you can find previous threads. Rather than a crash, low-cal diet, I would just start making small changes - smaller portions is a good start, I've personally cut down on stodgy carbs and feel less bloated as a result. But don't be unrealistic or else you'll just set yourself up for failure - small steps at the start.

trumpton · 06/07/2010 20:03

30 day shred . there are 2 threads on it. It is brilliant.(sorry typing onehanded, got bowl of icecream in my hand ! ) lost at least one dress size in 30 days.

Katisha · 06/07/2010 20:06

Dukan is working well and quickly for many of us - big thread on here.

Think trying to lose 2 stone in such a short time will be pointless, you'll be unlikely to achieve your goal & likely to put it all back on (plus some more as you will have starved yourself).

Why don't you:

Just put DD in a buggy and go for a long walk in the sunshine each day.

Collect the children from school and kick a ball around the park.

Go for a swim when your DH is back and can look after the children.

Stop buying junk food (if you don't buy it you won't eat it).

Go to a farm and pick some fruit - great to do with the children.

Enjoy a salad and a spritzer.

archstanton · 08/07/2010 21:23

Well, we do walk to and from school each day. I also go to the park regularly.
And if it was as easy as saying don't buy the junk and you wont eat it then I'd have done it. By the time I have all three in bed at night I am totally and utterly shattered.

The 2stone goal is my goal loss not what I want to lose in a month or anything.

Just to add; not off to Malta until first week of September so I though 1 stone was realistic by then. Is it not?
