Is anyone trying to gain weight?

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if any of you are trying to gain weight? I know that probably sounds silly to a lot of people, but I am, and always have been, naturally very slim, as have all the women in my family. It's not impacting on my health, but I'd really like to gain a bit of weight and be a bit more curvy... I'm a size 6 at the moment but I really have no curves to speak of!

Is anyone in the same position, or have any advice? The only suggestions I've had from friends so far are "Go to McDonalds" (I do eat my fair share of crap but I'd rather gain weight in a slightly healthier way, if that's possible!) and "Drink full fat milk". (At the moment I drink semi skimmed because full fat just tastes like cream to me. Everything else I have full fat.)

I eat a fairly balanced diet, I think, relatively healthy but with a bit of junk here and there too. But I just can't seem to gain any weight. Any suggestions? I know it probably seems silly to a lot of people if you're trying to lose weight, and I am glad that I have an easy metabolism and can eat what I please, but I would like to be just a little bit bigger!

try not listening to your body when you are full and keep eating- trust me it's easy!!!

Also make sure you are eating plenty of protein and complex carbs (wholemeal bread and pasta)

so your body can store it as fat and muscle.

Add butter to things such as mash potato and switch to full fat milk, the creaminess is

what makes it so damn irrisistable!

Cheese is good for weight gain too, has also lots of calcium and protein in.

McDonalds won't really help, try to stear clear of crap and remember you're trying to

get bigger not more unhealthy.

I'm the same. I'm just not a foodie. Food doesn't interest me and I'd happily do without it. I usually eat about one meal a day and a couple of snacks, esp in this weather. I could do with putting on maybe half a stone which would bring me up to the minimum healthy BMI. But I find eating such a chore.

Hi Kitty,
Just saw your post. I'm in this situation too - would love to gain about a stone, which'd take me over the minimum healthy BMI.

Like you, I've found it's one of those things that no-one really understands - most people seem to gain so easily.

My tip, which at least helps me keep weight on, even if I don't gain much, is to fit in an extra meal/snack a day. So I generally eat tea with DC around 6, and then before bed I'll have something else.

Oooh oops, forgot to check this! Thanks guys - I'm glad I'm not the only one! You're right, nobody really understands. And being slim seems to be so widely condemned at the moment, sometimes it makes me feel really awful.

I'll check out that other thread, thanks And good luck!
