I started the Charles Clark diet two weeks ago and have lost 7 pounds which is good but still have another stone and a half to go.

Anyone else low carbing?

I did have more vege last night than I have been having so it could have taken me out of ketosis. I'll test my wee in a bit and check.

Have just tested and am still in ketosis so I think I'm just getting the wobblies because its day 8. Neris and India felt like this on day 5. I'll feel better tomorrow

febes · 21/06/2010 14:13

I have been having between 10 -30 gr of carbs per day.

Earlybird · 21/06/2010 14:16

Can anyone suggest a good/basic book on how to do this sort of dieting?

All your tips are very kind, but I still don't fully understand how to do this sort of eating/diet.

febes · 21/06/2010 14:22

I have just bought Neris and Indias idiot proof diet and their cookbook off amazon. It was really cheap and great to read. Very motivating and simple. It follows the same inital phase as atkins and other low carb diets. I highly recommend.

Baileysismyfriend · 21/06/2010 14:33

I have the Charles Clark high protein diet, its very cheap on Amazon.

I wonder if Neris and India have kept the weight off?

I bought the Atkins book but I don't bother with it I just eat meat, fish, green veg , salads, cheese, eggs, nuts, berries.

I didn't take a vit C supplement and I got deficient - had massive bruises on arms and legs which I believe is caused by lack of vit C. Since I have been eating "normally" over the past 2 weeks they have all gone.

SantaCruise · 21/06/2010 16:37

Well for dinner I'm making low carb sausages with veg etc. I planned to have a yorkshire pud with it - knowing they were pretty high in carbs but not "that bad" - anyway there's like 40g of carbs in each pudding!!! That's double my daily allowance So my dilema is do I go without the pudding? eat the pudding and suffer a stall to my weight loss or compromise and eat half of the pudding? lol

febes · 21/06/2010 17:38

How many carbs are your low carb sausages. I got some sausages the other day and they are 6g per sausage. I thought 2 for a meal couldn't hurt?? Would like to find some lower carb ones though.

Don't have the yorkie. You'll feel some proud of yourself. Treat yourself to some yummy cheese or maybe some crispy bacon instead.

SantaCruise · 21/06/2010 18:33

The sausages were 3.5g each - i think they were from tesco. very nice too

msboogie · 21/06/2010 18:36

Simply Sausages Smithfield No 1 Recipe Pork Sausages are only 2.3g carbs each

and extremely nice sausages too!

What I love about low carbing is that you rarely feel hungry. I had an omelette at lunchtime and normally I would have picked since then and had a bit of the kids' dinner, but I have had nothing!

Although I am twitching over open bottle of my favourite wine in the fridge!

Do many of the other low carbers use Ketostix? I am tempted to order some as I find them a great motivator.

Baileysismyfriend · 21/06/2010 20:16

The Charles Clark diet says that you can wine as its low in carbs but I have found that if I have a glass or three then my weight loss stalls..

OP posts:
msboogie · 21/06/2010 21:10

I use ketostix, although once you get well into ketosis you can tell you are in it, I find and don't need the stix to tell you.

I have the same problem with wine. If I drink ANY I don't lose weight. I can do brilliantly all week, have a glass or two of wine at the weekend and when my weekly weigh in comes around I will be the same weight as the week before.

Thing is, even if your booze is low carb your body will latch onto any alochol and use that up for fuel even before carbs. So if you drink the food you eat with it gets saved for making flab**this could probably be described in slightly better scientific terms...

elsiepiddock · 21/06/2010 22:03

Makes sense msboogie! Am one of those unfortunate weaklings that can't get through 7 days without a drink!

msboogie · 21/06/2010 22:06

aye, me too

febes · 21/06/2010 22:34

Just went out with for a friends birthday dinner. At a tapas restaurant but it does all sorts of food too. I ordered meatballs in tomato sauce and mozzerella and avo salad thingy and water. A bit of a bore but I feel really good and wasn't even tempted to break my diet. I looked and the others plates when they came out massive piles of burgers with chips and huge pizzas and I thought 'yuck look at all that filer rubbish' 2 weeks ago I would have ordered a burger!!

SantaCruise · 22/06/2010 08:08

How can you tell you're in ketosis without using the sticks? i've just ordered some - last time I became obsessed witrh them and was testing my wee after every biscuit etc I had must be sensible this time!

msboogie · 22/06/2010 10:30

I can tell I am in ketosis when I don't feel hungry even when I haven't eaten, or when I feel sort of empty but not starving after not eating for ages. Also you get this sort of euphoric feeling.

I am finally today going to get my self back into ketosis after 2 weeks off it...

well done febes that's really good!

febes · 22/06/2010 15:05

Yeap you feel 'up', metalic taste in your mouth for a few days and not hungry!! Its amazing.

elsiepiddock · 22/06/2010 23:25

I did a really strenuous spin class this evening and felt chipper.

Only on day 2 though! Could I be in ketosis yet?

DemonChild · 23/06/2010 12:51

Hi, can I join. Started low carbing today, could do with some support! I'm getting married in September and have a stone to lose.

Am starting swimming again as well! I really hope this works, I've never stuck to a diet before in my life.

msboogie · 23/06/2010 14:54

You probably are in ketosis elsie well done!

demonchild - don't think of it as a diet but a new way of eating! you will lose a stone easily.

my best tip is to plan your meals, try to always know what you are going to have next and always have suitable snacks available in case you need one.

DemonChild · 23/06/2010 18:05

Thank you. Am stocking up on cheese, ham, prawns and chicken for snacks.

Unfortunately, if my DP ate low carb, he'd die of skinniness (yes, it's a real illness, wish I had it)

So for dinners, I think we'll be having lots of stir fries (he can have noodles/cous cous/whatever and I just won't)

What sweet treats are you allowed?

Baileysismyfriend · 23/06/2010 18:29

Sugar free jelly is good, its nice with cream!

febes · 23/06/2010 19:32

My DH is also very slim but he is loving all the meat based meals and full fridge. We mainly have steak, salmon, chicken etc with salad and I do dh rice or pots or pasta to go with.
I haven't had anything sweet yet as I am still within my first 2 weeks but I did have 2 vodies and slimline tonics last night . Thet made my head spin something shocking.
