Low Carb Veggie Diet - am thinking I might give it a go...

Am hugely sceptical having done them before (because IMO you can never commit to binning carbs for life and the weight goes straight back on) but after a week of eating dust, exercising and achieving nothing I'm thoroughly pissed off and need somethign to kick start me out of this rut.

Anyone tried this/want to join me?

I might be being a dullard but what do you eat on this diet? Have been doing an Atkins maintenance thing for the last 2 years and kept at the same weight, but I'm pretty sick of meat and salad now.

I'd be interested to hear more about it!

I think you're pretty much screwed if you don't like eggs and tofu! Will check the rules and post back in a bit...

Ok, basically, you can have 20g of carbs per day, and you need at least 60g of protein. you can have unlimited eggs and tofu, nuts, seeds, loads of veggies (but I think you need to count all the carbs in 'em), soya milk and yogurt, etc etc.

It sounds a bit complicated to be honest (and a bit grim) but I need to do something, and last time I did this I'm sure I lost 10lbs quite quickly which appeals right now...

Can I join you?

I followed this a short while ago until I was struck down with gallstones. I tried to switch to a low fat diet but my carb cravings have hit an all time high!

I am back low carbing (day 3) and have been -lurking wanting to post something similar for days

Its a good plan once you get going but you have to plan your meals a bit more. I am easing myself back in gently so I am not being as strict at the moment, will see how my gallbladder reacts first!

Ah right, think I'll have to politely decline that one mrsF - got a soya allergy you see!

sigh back to the eggs n watermelons...

Oooh, yay! Morning Frazzled! I haven't done this for about 3 years and I remember the peanut protein shakes knocking me a bit sick so might swerve those this time!

3 egg omelette for breakfast, so far so good. Just need to start writing down a list of everything so I can work out the carbs. Have you got your head round the whole calculating thing at the moment?

yes peanut protein shake was not a favourite of mine I like making a black coffee with a bit of splenda, letting it cool for a bit and then pouring into another cup with choc or vanilla protein powder in & add a dash of cream - breakfast on the go.

I hate to say it but it appears that posting about being back on the diet has resulted in what I was dreading - grumbling gallbladder.

I think I am going to have to wait until I've been seen at the hospital in a few weeks as a hot water bottle is no fun in this weather!!

I found keeping a pen and notebook to hand to jot down what I was having really helped. Each day I listed my food with the protein, carb and fibre content. May sound mad but after a couple of weeks you get to know the content of your favourite foods so its easier if you are caught on the hop.

Good luck with the plan, fingers crossed I can get back into it post op

Frazzled - oh no! Sorry to hear that, I really hope you get them sorted out asap! (Hang on - did this diet give you them?!!)

Give me a shout if you think you'll give it another go later, although will be amaxed if I can keep it up for very long, it's really doing my head in thinking what I can and can't have! (Halloumi and spinach for tea, it was quite nice, but still....)
