Hi

I have joined Slimming world today and am looking to lose 2st 8lb's.

My first question is if something has 4 syns for a tbsp then if I have half a tbsp is that 2 syns?

I would also like to know what foods are syn free that I wouldnt expect (esp snacks and lunch type foods)? For example, I learned today that certain pasta in a sauce are syn free and low fat supernoodles are too. Is there anything else?

Thanks

Also sorry, but I know you are allowed 5 to 15 syns a day. Is this easy to follow everyday or do you allow yourselves to go over the occassional time? Im worried one day I will have loads and will really worry that im the only one. Knowing me I will get fed up with what I am eating and say fuck this im eating what I like and will go over, but I will soon feel guilty and get straight back to it.

Hi.

I joined last week but have done it before (6 years ago before my wedding when I lost 3 1/2 stone).

It os the best diet and its easy cos there's so much you can eat.

I would say that 1/2 tbsp wud be 2 syns, and you can use your weekly amount of syns as you like. I used to use hardly any during the week, and then enjoy the weekends with a few treats.

I'm going to get weighed tomorrow, so we'll see how I've done!!! I've only had 6 syns all week, so hope i've done well!!

Good luck

Thanks for your reply. I shall remember that about using them as a weekly thing rather than a daily thing. Although I am worried as all these 1 and 2 syns here and there do add up. Although Ive pretty much thought out my meals for the next few days.

Hi

Have been at sw just over a year & have lost almost 3 stone so can help you out if you want

We try & keep syns to 10 a day, that gives you 70 a week.

If you use 5 one day & 30 the next, it makes no difference! If you are going out for a meal, save your syns up so you can ejoy a sauce which will add syns to your meal.

The great thing about the EE plan is that you can eat out & the meal could be practically syn free, depending on your choices

Green day (and EE) free snacks are mugshots, get them in tesco, like a noodle soupy thing you have in a cup, the pkts of pasta if you make them with water or use your milk from HEA allowance. Cans of tuns, chicken, ham is good to snack on on an EE day or original day. You can get fat free cottage cheese & wrap the ham around it, delish!!

Do you keep a food diary? I would recommend keeping one for the first while, just so it's easier for you to see where the 1 & 2 syns all add up

sausage bear - you should really try to use your sins as it mentally helps to keep you following the plan (btw I used to be a consultant many moons ago so this is not just my opinion its actually from SW HQ)

Hi - some good tips thanks. I am just trying to be good as its my first week. I haven't felt hungry at all or deprived, so haven't felt the need for syns really! Going away next week for 5 days so will be eating out a lot. Any tips on best meals to choose when eating out? Would really appreciate advice.

Thanks

If you are having a red day - choose steak. tuna etc & a green salad - make sure any sauces are on the side.

Otherwise make sure you ask how the meals are prepared (if you don't want to say you're on a diet then say you have food intolorances) - & ask them to prepare it so that it fits in with SW.

phoenixflower · 13/05/2010 18:33

sausagebear - what sorts of meals have you been having if you don't mind me asking. I have just joined SW too!

sausagebear · 14/05/2010 12:20

Got weighed last night. Lost 5lb - I'm so pleased!

Phoenixflower, I've been having salad for lunch every day (lettuce, red onion, red and orange pepper, sweetcorn) with some cheese from 'a' choice. For dinner I've been having things like potato, veg and cous cous or savoury rice. I made spaghetti and meatballs last night (from the little recipe book I got in the pack when I joined) and it was really nice. I'm going to try the chilli and the mediterranean lamb as well, so will let you know!!

Asda do good for you packet pasts, carbonara flavour. I've had that too - adding more pasta to it. I think its a couple of syns, but not bad for the amount you can eat when adding your own pasta.
