had enough - need a kick start to shift 2 stone

am about 11 stone

have been for ages now, at least since not long after having dc3 (he's 16 months)

have tried ww twice - i lose a few pounds in the first 2 weeks then nada. it's not working for me, and i am religious about it.

i exercise as much as i can - circuit training once a week, gym a couple of times if i can

i don't eat junk food
i have cut my portion sizes, bulk up meals with salad etc, and for the past few weeks have been reducing carbs, not having any in the evenings.

i just feel that nothing is working for me. I cannot starve myself - 3 dc's and military husband on deployment, i need energy from food - i can't bear being hungry

any suggestions for something to kick start weight loss? I feel if i could do something for a couple of weeks and see real results, i would be very motivated to keep going. I'm only 5'3" so 11 stone is too heavy, and it's more or less all belly. If I could see the scales move down for once i'd be thrilled.

I've been ill this month - first time d&v, didn't eat a thing for 2 days - no weight loss. 2nd time tonsilitis, couldn't eat for about 4 days (apart from some soup) - lost a couple of pounds but naturally it's all back on once I start eating normally again.

haven't tried sw before - mum and a friend both doing well on it but given that it's about cooking a lot from scratch don't know if it's worth it given i'll be cooking just for myself, iyswim?

help!

Have you considered Paul McKenna? I have been doing in for a few weeks now (can't remember exactly how many, about 7 or 8 I think) and I have lost half a stone. Yes, it's slow but I am getting results and I can eat anything I like. Basic premiss is that you eat ONLY when you are genuinely hungry, you eat VERY slowly and stop as SOON as you start to realise you have had enough. It has been a revelation to me. I will never go on a diet again. I don't feel in the least bit deprived and I know that when I am hungry I can eat - anything!!! There is a book and accompanying cd but tbh I am just following the three rules at the moment of eating when I am hungry, eating slowly and stopping when I am full. I feel so much more in control of food and feel that this is a lifestyle change that I can maintain forever. I still eat carbs, fat, sweets crisps etc. I exercise 3 times a week ( novice running program and 15 mins of rowing which I will build up gradually)

p.s I have around another 2 stones that I would like to lose.

peggotty · 25/04/2010 11:32

pps what is sw?!

justallovertheplace · 25/04/2010 11:33

Why do you assume that by cooking from scratch you'd not be cooking meals your dc could have? afaik, SW is a plan that is pretty much normal food, though the only person I know who's done it put weight on

fustyarse · 25/04/2010 12:14

that's a point, just - i suppose i could get them eating what i was making - they're just a bunch of fusspots (esp dd)

sw is slimming world pegotty

have got the paul mckenna book and cd - i will dig it out and have a go

by saying kick start i don't mean that i want to suddenly lose 10lbs on a week or anything, just something consistent. a couple of pounds a week would be nice - just found with ww i lose 2lbs first week, 1lb next, then nothing for the weeks after. it's really hard to stay motivated when you're not getting results.

fusty, I've lsot 5 stone doing Neris and India's Idiot Proof diet. I put on masses of weight when pg and bf my son, and had a pretty awful time with PND, so the weight stacked on. It took just less than 6 months and I've gone from just under 15 stone to just under 10. I am on my own with 2 dc and tbh it is a low carb plan, but is about fresh food, so they just had what I had, but with pasta or a jacket potato. It really wasn't an issue, and my dd is also very fussy.
