Weight loss challenge for Summer. Who wants to join?

I've been really bad about my eating habits gradually sliding back to all the wrong food even crisps. Yesterday I've looked at my self and thought - enough is enough - what am I going to look like when Summer comes and there isn't any chance to hide any fat parts? So, I'm going to get back to normal. I went to the shop and bought Lentil and bean shoots which I'm snacking on with an apple and a plum. I'm going to make soup for lunch. I heard beetroot is good for weight loss and so is cabbage so both together with a carrot and broccoli are going in and I'm set for a start of a new life! How many times did I try to loose weight? Too many, in most cases achieved brilliant results driving mum crazy when I was in my teens. Well, the point is - its really hard to keep the weight off because I get fed up with healthy food and reach for the treats like a monkey (oh, poor monkeys, I Shouldn't have said that, okay, not a monkey, just like me myself in my silly to go happy way - love that ice cream! Oh, I shouldn't have said that eitherr. Temptations! No, must be strong!) So , anyone would like to join me and support me as my will power leaves me quickly when I'm trying to loose weight?

Hi friendly, why not join us on our yo yo diet thread? We are all trying to lose weight and are fed up of the cycle of losing the weight then re-gaining it. I have also made the decision that this is for life, it's not a diet it's breaking my bad habits of snacking on junk, eating very large portions and not getting enough exercise. It is hard but with a little support we can do it. Come and take a look at the thread .

realitychick · 21/04/2010 13:51

Very cheeky poaching - or if you like ice cream come and take a look at the no-diet-lose-weight-anyway Paul McKenna thread.

GypsyMoth · 21/04/2010 13:54

Hi friendly, I'd like to join you. I have been doing Go Lower since October and lost over 4 stone but still got more to go until I feel happy looking slim in the summer.

Thank you for joining I'm having hot water with lemon every morning, fruit/veg snacks not to feal hungry, vegie soup for lunch or a salad without dressing and normal dinner when my family is back. How does that sound? Tried for a few days, so far didn't losse anything! GRRRRR Anyway, still early days and I did have sooooo many wrong things - ice cream, hot chocolate with cream on top, crisps, chocolats to name a few.. I need to loose 6 yp 7 kg which I have done in the past but I keep getting them back because I get fed up with salads, fruits, seeds and all the rest which I pile up in great amounts to keep hunger away. And I don't like running. I don't go swimming/ jogging/to the gym. etc. so no exersise apart from walking which is slow, I don't like being in a rush, You get the picture. And I sit in fronyt og my computer for too long.. That doesn't help. I know what I'm doing wrong, time to get things right. How about you?

OP posts:
mummymels · 29/04/2010 09:29

Hi Friendly, if you are just eating salads and fruit maybe you are not eating enough. You may be need a bit of protein with it too to bumpf it up a bit. Good luck though anyway. How have you been the last couple of days?

friendly7 · 30/04/2010 11:32

Hi mummymels, I was having porridge with whole cream milk and honey with a glass of whole cream milk which I think was a bit too much so I'm going back to fruit/veg/, hot water with lemon. Cooking cod in the oven wrapped in foil at the moment and I always have dinner we have as a family, just cut out chocolate/biscuits and coffee as I need sugar in mine. The ridiculous thing with coffee if I have it out I find it so bitter that I put up to 5 (!) sugars in my cup so it's better for me not to have it in restaurant as it's almost always bitter for me. How have you been doing?

Hi friendly. I lost a stone and a half in a month on lipotrim year and a half ago - 2 months later it was back on and I just ate and ate and couldn't stop. Now 2 weeks into healthy eating and exercise but haven't lost much so far...it's so tempting to go back to crash diet but I think I've learnt my lesson. I was eating porrige as well because I decided to cut out wheat and refined sugar but I think I'm going to have to be a bit more strict. Definitely find that I can eat more sensibly as soon as I cut out sugar but still portion control is tough because I comfort eat. I agree with mummymels that perhaps your diet is a bit too tough? What treats will you allow? Have been trying interval running but I am so heavy it really kills my legs after!

mummymels · 30/04/2010 17:30

Ah sorry friendly, I think I had misunderstood what you were doing. Sorry about that. It sounds as if you have it spot on. Good luck and hopefully this week the loss will catch up.

peasontoast - It sounds as if you have tried all sorts but hopefully this time will go well. What is interval running if you don't mind me asking?

peasontoast · 30/04/2010 18:19

Its interval training if I'm being correct, where you have short bursts of intense activity - whatever it happens to be:swimming, running, cycling - interspersed with longer, gentler periods so for instance 1 min fast running followed by 5 mins gentle jogging/brisk walking in a pattern. Apparently that is better for burning cals and improving fitness than trying to go all out and run for 20 solid mins when I would probably just be slogging along which wouldn't be doing much good. Trouble is I am so heavy at the moment that even those short bursts are taking a toll. Then again, I've only done 3 runs so far...

friendly7 · 03/05/2010 21:26

Hi girls. I'm trying to cut out sugar where I can. I do have from time to time shop made products and even soup sometimes have sugar so I'm not going to cut it out completely but no more tea and coffee with sugar, at least for now. I do eat a lot, must be more sensible. Having porridge right now but no sugar or honey and on half fat milk.

OP posts:
NMoe · 03/05/2010 22:51

I agree interval training is the best for short quick workout. I like to run 10 mins then do 5 - 10 sprints if you can do this everyday I promise you will see a change and start feeling better of course with healthy meals.

mummymels · 04/05/2010 22:58

Ahh peasontoast, thanks for explaining. That sounds a really good idea. I don't really do any exercise and know I should but I feel so unfit. I have lost a lot of weight now but I am still rubbish with exercise btu that sounds a good idea, almost like a bit of compromise if I'm unable to run long distance as you say. I hope it starts to get easier for you the more you do it.

Friendly, I hope it goes well for you. I look forward to hearing your updates.

friendly7 · 06/05/2010 21:42

So sorry, girls. I hate running, I don't cycle, I don't go to GYM and I don't do anything apart from walking (yes, lazy, I know). And I went back to my coffee with 2 sugars! Just couldn't stand these cups of tea with a lot of milk to compensate no sugar. And as a result, of course, still fat. What do I expect? Sitting in front of computer and having a pity of poor myself. I do try to eat fruit and veg but fruit is packed with sugar, berries are terribly sweet (just had blueberries and felt as if someone put 3 spoons of sugar on them! How are you? I hope doing better then me.

friendly7 just wondered if you like dancing in your living room - i get a really good cardio workout to all sorts - at the moment i like jumping around to lady gaga (just dance) and rocking out to the All American Rejects (swing swing) and bopping around to a bit of Bob Marley. When DH is around i like to skank to Madness, specials that kind of thing - whatever turns you on you could even float around to Kate Bush .

I find planning ahead snacks and meals also works wonders - as long as its not sabotaged by DH!!

lovelife48 · 08/05/2010 14:00

Hi

Can I join? I weighed myself for the first
time in ages on Tuesday and discovered I am
at least 1 and half stone overweight, and am
over my BMI. I am not just concerned with how I look but also the health implications.

I have since then not snacked between meals, apart from fruit and eating a sensible 3 meal a day diet. I want it to be a change in
lifestyle as I am fed up of the yo yo weight/loss I have had over the years Lost
up to 2 stone with weight watchers twice but
it has slowly crept back on. I so want to
keep if off this time!!

Interested in low carb if anyone has any tips. I am also a vegetarian.

friendly7 · 08/05/2010 17:40

Yes, dancing would be good. I must try that. Thank you omydarlin.

umm just had a wee bit ofa blowout tea it involved steak, olive oil and balsamic roasted tomatoes. my naughty snack today was a handful of skips (which are quite low in cals though - better than kettle chips) but hey at least i resisted the wine!!

friendly7 · 08/05/2010 20:29

Had shop bought burgers but without baps - we grilled rady made shaped burgers, added some chese, tomatoes and ketchup, then salad and red pepper. Watermelon slices with strawberries for desert. Avoided chocolate and ice cream. Still, not brilliant, I know.

Friendly ? if it means anything I have gone off the wagon a bit lately too. We had a busy weekend with friends coming round and I ate a lot of what I shouldn?t and then leftovers yesterday. Today I have been good though so hopefully won?t go off the rails again. I?m terrible with exercise too so I understand where you are coming from. Know it is no excuse but I find it hard finding the time.

Lovelife ? Welcome and good luck.

Omydarling ? your dinner sounds yummy.

friendly7 · 13/05/2010 22:54

Thank you mummymels. Nice to know I'm not the only one who doesn't find time to exercise. Let's start tomorrow with healthy eating and walking.
