and I don't know why!

I started last Monday, put on about 3 pounds during the week, and by yesterday was back where I started. I did drink every night last week, but realised this was not part of induction by Friday and haven't drank since, but still no weight loss.

I have started exercising, am drinking loads of water, and am not having hidden carbs in the form of tomatoes, onions etc etc.

I am steadily in ketosis, I have no hunger cravings anymore and feel fine (apart from a lack of toilet activity!), but still no weight loss.

Do any atkins experts know what could be happening?? Am I one of those people in his book with a metabolic disorder? and if so, how can I overcome this?

Firstly you are in ketosis so its working, secondly you can write off the first week because you drank and most importantly you should only weigh once a week. The lack of toilet activity can be overcome by taking Psyllium husks in the evening (holland and barrett stock them) this may also be leading to your lack of weight loss.

A fantastic website i used is www.pig2twig.com It's more female friendly than Atkins but essentially the same plan.

Good luck, I lost 2 stone a couple of years ago and still watch my carbs which works for me.

A fantastic book to read is The Diet Delusion by Taubes. Its a heavy tome but kicks low fat diets into to the ditch.

If you're constipated that won't help. But the bottom line is that if you've been overeating on the calories you won't lose weight either. Ketosis is a bit of a smoke-screen... you still have to trim your total calorie intake to lose weight whether you go low-carb, smart-carb or any other combination.

thanks Alouiseg have joined that site.

Chil, what is smart carb?

I have read today that actually you can be in ketosis, but this might just mean you are burning off the fat you are eating, not your body fat, so it is worthwhile cutting down on the bad fats. so I did that today.

'Smart carb' is shorthand for choosing the better carbohydrates such as wholegrains, vegetables, fruit, pulses, nuts etc... and eating them in moderate amounts. Far healthier than 'low-carb' which doesn't distinguish between a doughnut and a piece of broccoli.

But you still have to control the portion-sizes in order to lose weight.
