Low Carbers - has anyone tried whey protein shakes?

Sorry if its been discussed before but I just wondered what everyone thought of whey protein powder?

I'm thinking of substituting my (very boring) egg and bacon breafast a couple of times a week with a chocolate protein shake (3g carbs max).

Also, I've heard you can use the powder to make muffins and hot chocolate etc ...

Holland & Barret have it half price at the moment so I'm thinking of getting it tomorow.

why would you do this?

Isn't that just a different version of Slimfast?

Enchilada81 · 01/03/2010 08:19

Not really, it's just a meal substitute. Basically, I have a dodgy stomach and the last thing I want to do first thing in a morning is eat. So drinking one of these would mean I still get something inside me without feeling sick and bloated for hours.

I know they're all chemically but needs must! Just wondered if anyone had tried them?

(btw I'm not planning to live on them! just to have one for breakfast maybe 2/3 times a week)

I've been taking this one which is not too bad. Don't like the fact that it has sweeteners, but , as you say it's only for a couple of times a week breakfast and it does keep you full until lunchtime

I sometimes use Atkins shakes when I'm short on time- they're ok but I don't look forward to having them -taste quite sweet and powdery so I sometimes half and half them with black coffee for a warm drink.
