Low Carbers - have I blown it??

I've been doing really well with my atkins(ish) diet for the past two days and even managed to lose 2lbs on my second day. Today I used a ketostix and it had started turning purple. Was really pleased and motivated.

But, it's DS's birthday today and everyone insisted I have a "tiny" bit of cake. Didn't want to upset DS so had a very, very small piece of the (chocolate sponge covered in choc icing) cake. Carbs were 29g per slice.

That's more than I'm supposed to have in an entire day

Have I totally blown it? will I have put 2lbs on now? Will I have to start all over again? feeling quite disapointed with myself.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell....

Not a great thing to do, tbh, because this is quite an unforgiving WOE (way of eating) - unlike calorie counting. But in the great scheme of things, as long as you didn't then go on and eat crisps, sandwiches and more cake it isn't too bad.

But - drink lots of water, get back on the wagon and it should be fine.

(BTW - if the ketostix are turning purple it's actually a sign that you're not drinking enough water.)

If you really want to embrace the low carb way of life, you're going to have to find strategies to deal with this kind of situation. You could take the hard core way, and refuse - or you could take a long term view and include things like this occasionally. It depends on how quickly you want to lose the weight; it also depends on how good you are at not caving into other carby foods once you've given in to one thing!

Thanks Because I didn't eat anything else after that. I felt too guilty!
I weighed myself this morning and I've lost another lb. The ketostix are going dark pink rather than purple really ... I am drinking quite a lot of water but will try and drink more.

Must admit, I was tempted with a packet of crisps after the cake thats because I have a habbit of thinking "oh well, I've blown it now, may as well make the most of it" lol

Nooooooooooooooooooooo! That way only misery lies!

Best bet if you're going to slip is to allow the slip to happen and then be ultra strict with yourself before the carbs really get into your system and set off those cravings, or those feelings that will only too quickly sabotage your best efforts.
