Well will do both as otherwise would exist on olives, cheese and chocolate (oh and the odd gallon of wine!)

But have been doing slimming world since before Christmas and am not getting anywhere!

DH reckons it is because I exercise quite a lot and he reckons some diets just don't work if you do a lot of exercise!

My shape is changing but it is just so bloody disheartening constantly bloody pluggin away exercising and the scales not going down!

have you taken your measurements also?

you may be losing inches rather than pounds

justallovertheplace · 14/02/2010 15:38

Are you being honest with yourself about what you're eating and how much exercise you're really getting?

MadameCastafiore · 14/02/2010 15:42

I eat 2 slices of toast in the morning with just marmite or peanut butter than live on fruit and a couple of mullerlights throughout the day and have a healthy red or green meal in the evening. I drink diet coke or tea or coffee with skimmed milk and have a berocca each morning.

SOmetimes I also have beans on toast at about 3 if I have swum and am running that evening because otherwise I think I would die.

I run about 20k a week and swim 30 - 50 lengths 4 times a week.

To be honest, I don't think you're eating enough. You need more healthy carbs and proteins through the day. Fruit and fat-free yogurt are great snacks, but you need a proper lunch too.

SW worked for me and I exercise loads. But I also ate loads, while following the plan. Eat more of your free foods for the day, either meat or carbs, depending on your day colour.

The fact that your shape is changing is great, and you'll probably find that once it stops changing you'll start to lose again. Stuff is happening, and it's all good!

i don't understand why you are not losing weight tbh. but how can you run and swim that much while only eating fruit etc during the day?

MadameCastafiore · 14/02/2010 15:52

That is what the Said Annie - thing is what to eat that is just carbs and free food or meat and free food and not use your other B option?

Barack - I do at the moment seem to have endless energy - think it is just being a lot fitter than normal and the magic berocca!

I used to just run and found it really hard to keep uo but since throwing in the swimming my fitness has increased soooo much and it all just seems so easy - so that is why I am pissed at not getting lighter!

The only thingthat works for me is three meals a day and no snacking

probono · 14/02/2010 16:01

Exercise first: eat as much as you want but no crap and half your normal amount starch and sugar. Twill happen. Weights, mdear, weights. Bodypump.

probono · 14/02/2010 16:03

Forget all that cardio -- get thee to the gym. Cardio is useless after a bit. You just need a little to get your heart rate up, like ten mins before and after weights. But save yourself the time and do weights instead.

probono · 14/02/2010 16:04

Also eat nuts all the time. Eat a LOT of nuts.

Dominique07 · 14/02/2010 16:07

What about oatcakes instead of toast in case the wheat in the bread is not helping? Bread doesn't help me, I know.

AnnieLobeseder · 14/02/2010 16:09

Whichever you want to eat, but fat-free yoghurt doesn't have much real nutrition to it, apart from a little protein. And fruits have simple sugars which break down too fast to be useful to sustain you in the longer term. So, on both days, use ALL your A and B choices. DO NOT skip them. In fact, you could probably stand to add an extra B on heavy exercise days.

As for the free foods, fill up on complex carbs like wholewheat pasta, brown rice or potatoes on green days, and lean meats on red days.

You really aren't getting enough calories, and the calories you're eating during the day aren't good exercise fuel.

probono · 14/02/2010 16:29

What's happened is you are eating so little and not that healthily, so your metabolic rate isn't doing what it should with the cardio. Eat less, metabolic rate goes down. Even when you exercise your rate is down on what it would be if you were eating properly. You might be losing muscle mass which will decrease your rate further.

Weight bearing exercise increases muscle mass and so your metabolic rate. Loads better than cardio for reshaping and fantastic for osteoparosis.

BariatricObama · 14/02/2010 16:57

weight work is tedious though!

fortyplus · 14/02/2010 17:07

Hang on a min... maybe you're a healthy weight already? What is your BMI?

probono · 14/02/2010 18:29

comparing to running! are you joking!

it's not boring really
take a book for all leg work

if you're doing it properly you're changing machines often, listening to music, watching cnn, watching other people

running is chronic

I've lost a stone since the summer - my ds1 took up kayaking and I thought I'd have a go too. Great for the bingo wings! Lots of pics on the Canoe Club website www.hhcanoeclub.com/
