Heart rate monitor - which one? Help needed thanks!

The gym I have just joined have suggested getting a heart monitor which will calibrate to its machines so that I can train properly, trouble is not sure what to buy, I would like one that straps to the chest (or arm?) if anyone could recommend one I would be very grateful!

I have a sigma pc 11 hr monitor and watch that is good. There is a chest band that monitors your heart rate and feeds it back to a watch.

It's a fairly basic model with time exercised, calories burnt and pulse rate. I've found that I work a lot harder when i'm wearing it. It works with the Technogym machines at my gym (virgin active). Cost about £30 on ebay.
