Anyone lost weight without dieting?

I am determined to lose this extra 2 stone and want it to be for good this time. I don't want to follow a diet. I am aiming to stick to 3 meals plus a small afternoon snack. Reduce portions. Only eat biscuits, choc, cakes etc at weekends. Excercise DVDs twice a week.

If any of you have succeeded in losing weight without dieting and kept it off I would appreciate your advice.

Thanks.

it should work yes, probably slower than some diets but if you can stick to it then that doesnt matter does it.

I am doing someting similar and want to lose 2 stones by the summer (obviously sooner would be nicer LOL) I have done every diet under the sun, enough times to know that I hate diets!

Have you thought about keeping a food diary instead of a diet? There are plenty of on-line, free, calorie counting pages that you can fill in each day. It has the double benefit of showing you what the worst foods are (sometimes surprising) and making you think twice before you eat something because you have to write it down. For me this was quite often: "have I had enough protein" not just "have I had too much..." I definitely got a better handle on what my body was needing and how big portions should be from doing this. I have maintained a good weight since but still have a sort of "star chart" for what exercise I do weekly which has a similar motivation behind it!

Good luck!

I lost quite a lot a few years ago when I was suffering from stress just before I went back on anti-ds. Well that combined with running a lot. Wouldn't recommend it TBH. But the running is good.

I was 11s4Ilb in September 2007 and by November 2007 was 10stone and have stayed that weight till summer 09 when I went down to 9.11 and now saty around 9.13

I joined a gym and aimed to go every single day for at least 45 minutes. I did the weight training for at least 20 minutes.

I eat sensible food, lots of smaller portions, only home cooked food. Simple snacks.

In summer 09 I stopped buying as much jars of sauce etc as I could, made bog sauce and made my own pesto, all food either simple or cooked myself - this I lost the next 2-3 ILB and it has stayed off.

i even make my own gravy now and don't add any bisto etc.

I really beleive that eating not jsut processed food but FRUCTOSE - etc can help to pile on the weight and at and the body can't get ride - fructose you think oh thats natural, it isn't and it is a cheap sugar source that manufactors use.

I worked out that 30 minutes of intense cardio will burn around 270 calories - but then you will burn another 100 in the next hour extra. So better to split your gym workouts or go every day for shorter workouts. Also use weights a lot as this will keep the weight of and it is really hard to bulk out muscles when you are female - so lifting heaving weights will not make you miss muscels

my friend did weight watchers at the same time and lost three stone and has kept it off - she did put on half a stone last summer but soon adjusted her eating again to lose the weight.

How active is your lifestyle?

2 exercise dvds a week doesn't sound much, unless you are already walking miles every day or have a physically active job.

And unless you really enjoy it, will you really stick to doing them twice a week?

I lost a lot of weight recently by taking up running every other day for about an hour a run. I also stopped snacking and reduced portion sizes.

Now I run 3 times a week for 60 - 90 minutes a time and eat normally to maintain my weight. I also cycle when possible and often swim a couple of times a week.

You need to find out what works for you. For me, a fair amount of exercise is the only way to be slim without dieting.

I have never dieted. I lose my pregnancy weight. I don't know how.I do need to lose 3/4 of a stone now. Thought that I would just pay attention a bit. would thus not eat as much crap inbetween meals. look at the paul mckenna dvd. see how it goes.

Thanks everyone. For those of you who have lost weight and kept it off could you give m ean idea of what you eat in a day. It mioght help me see where I am going wrong.

I agree exercise twice a week isn't much but I also walk 4 miles a day to and from school and have 2 pre school kids at home with me all day so I woudl say I am fairly active. However, I am also fairly active at snacking!

I agree it's about the targeted exercise. The arms and legs are superfit from all the running around, but people are commenting on my belly flab all the time (well, my gay neighbours mostly!). The problem is this post Christmas food orgy thing. Nightmare... I am going to buy the new Davina video and try to prevent myself from eating my own body weight in crap!!

HerBeatitude · 09/01/2010 11:01

Yes I did.

Paul McKenna principles. Eat what you want, when you're hungry, slowly, consciously enjoy everything you eat and STOP when you feel full, do NOT override your body's full message.
